This role is for a fully trained shop mechanic capable of executing all necessary shop tasks and routine preventative maintenance. The position involves performing repairs on trailers and minor fixes related to refrigeration power units.

  • Hourly Wage: $26.00 - $32.00, with an additional $0.50 per hour shift premium.
  • Shift Hours: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM.

Your Responsibilities as a Mechanic II:
  • Execute the duties of a Grade 4 Mechanic.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on trailer refrigeration systems.
  • Perform both simple and complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Independently handle the following repairs:
    • Diagnose, remove, repair, replace, or rebuild:
      • Clutches
      • Water pumps
      • Tires
      • Tractor suspension
      • Body repairs
      • Rear differentials
      • Drive lines
      • Transmissions
      • Wheel seals
      • Brake systems
  • Diagnose and tune up or repair diesel engines.
  • Perform front wheel alignments.
  • Conduct axle alignments on trailers.
  • Troubleshoot cooling systems.
  • Carry out diagnostic tests.
  • Utilize cutting torches and welding machines for repairs.
  • Interpret and apply service bulletins and technical manuals.
  • Maintain shop tools and equipment.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and data entry.
  • Adhere to company work and safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with supervisors and peers.
  • Follow instructions accurately.
  • Work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Become trained and certified to operate required equipment within 30 days of hire.
  • Abide by the company attendance policy.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to adapt to job demands, including availability for on-call shop duties and road calls using a company vehicle.
Qualifications for the Mechanic II Role:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; trade school completion in heavy-duty diesel repairs and/or refrigeration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel repairs, tractor-trailer maintenance, and refrigeration systems.
  • One year of documented experience in fleet maintenance or one year of employment with the organization at the upper level of Class C Technician.
  • Possess basic hand tools (up to ½" drive) and a tool storage solution.
  • Must obtain a current ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) (Test T8) within one year of hire.
  • Valid Class C Driver's License required; Class A license preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp, and reach overhead for extended periods.
  • Hold the following certifications:
    • International Maxx Force 13 Engines certification.
    • Transportation Refrigeration certification.
    • Brake Systems and components certification.
    • Tractor A/C Refrigeration and Freon Recovery (609 license required).
    • Trailer Refrigeration (608 license required for trailer units).
    • Heavy Duty electrical diagnostics and repairs.
    • Preferably ASE Certification in heavy-duty mechanics and Cummins or Detroit certification.
  • This position necessitates the ability to read, write, and comprehend English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely, including understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and essential communications.
