Job description

Matrix designs, manufactures, and sells innovative technological products that help keep people safe. Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally.

We are currently seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer. The Senior DevOps Engineer will be responsible for the planning, development, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines that support our software systems. This position will focus heavily on Microsoft Azure environments, Bitbucket build pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure development, staging, and production environments. This role will work closely with software teams to ensure infrastructure is in place for new initiatives and that deployments are executed efficiently and consistently. This position works in a team environment at our home office in Newburgh, IN. This is not a remote position.

This position reports to the Director of Cloud Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain Azurebased cloud infrastructure across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Manage and enhance Bitbucket Pipelines for automated builds, testing, and deployments.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or similar tools.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to ensure infrastructure supports new features, system architecture, and performance requirements.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for cloud services and applications.
  • Troubleshoot deployment issues, pipeline failures, and environment inconsistencies.
  • Develop and document system requirements, architecture, and operational procedures.
  • Support application testing, validation, and release processes across all environments.
  • Assist in the commissioning and deployment of new products and cloudbased services.
  • Mentor associate engineers and interns as needed.
  • Participate in field testing and system verification activities.
  • Document test results, deployment processes, and infrastructure configurations.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or related roles.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, including compute, networking, storage, identity, and security services.
  • Handson experience with Bitbucket Pipelines or similar CI/CD platforms.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM, etc.).
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Azure Container Apps, AKS preferred but not required).
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, cloud networking, and distributed systems.
  • Ability to develop and communicate new concepts and apply them accurately.
  • Strong communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of representing the company as a prime technical contact.

Working Conditions

  • Daily job duties will consist of office, lab, and desk work with occasional field testing required.
  • Candidates may be required to work underground, but on an infrequent basis.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to work near large moving machinery.
  • Customer operations may contain airborne particles and allergens.
  • Matrix employees are furnished and required to wear safety gear such as hard hats, steel toe shoes, reflective clothing, earplugs, and safety glasses when needed.
  • Occasional travel and ability to work various shifts as required by customer.
