Production Manager

Springfield, IL – Direct Hire

Productive Resources (www.productiveresources.com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our client’s team at their facility in Springfield, IL. As a member of the team, the selected candidate will be a highly qualified Production Manager who is responsible for overseeing the scheduling, execution, and quality of all production and installation work. This role ensures department operations run efficiently, safely, and profitably while upholding company policies and standards. The Production Manager is accountable for managing all Production Technicians, including hiring, training, coaching for excellence, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary. The Production Manager reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, one step from ownership in a company that has been family-held since 1946. This position leads a department of approximately 18 people — 15 production technicians, 2 painters, and assistant — with room to grow to 20 or more technicians

This is a full-time position that is indefinite in duration with the opportunity of professional growth, and additional opportunities within our organization.


Duties:

  • Lead, supervise, and develop all production personnel, ensuring they are properly trained and equipped to perform their work at a high level of quality and efficiency.
  • Develop and mentor two shop leads, building a floor leadership structure that scales as the department grows toward 20+ technicians.
  • Manage the hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management of team members, including corrective action and terminations as needed.
  • Maintain and monitor individual and team production schedules to ensure alignment with company profitability and delivery goals.
  • Coordinate with Sales and Purchasing to maintain an accurate production schedule and ensure proper materials are available for each job.
  • Monitor departmental KPIs and budget performance, using data and reporting tools to meet profit and efficiency targets.
  • Oversee quality control processes, ensuring work orders are accurate, complete, and meeting internal and customer expectations.
  • Address and resolve customer concerns related to production, maintaining strong customer relationships and clear communication.
  • Maintain and control production department inventory, consumables, tools, and warranty/rework documentation.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused culture within the production team.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, business administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive supervisory or management experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, conflict resolution, and performance management.
  • Proven ability to manage complex processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in scheduling, workflow optimization, and quality control.
  • Competencies should include: Business Acumen, Communication Proficiency, Customer/Client Focus, Leadership, Problem Solving/Analysis, Results Oriented, Strategic Thinking, Technical Aptitude.


Preferred:

  • Experience in truck equipment or heavy machinery, including knowledge of hydraulic components and electrical systems.
