Assistant Production Manager

Location: Jacksonville, Florida
Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on manufacturing leadership experience, operational knowledge, leadership ability, and demonstrated performance.
Position Summary
The Assistant Production Manager works in partnership with the Production Manager to lead the daily manufacturing operations. Together, they are responsible for ensuring a safe, productive, and efficient operation that consistently delivers quality products while meeting customer expectations and production commitments.
This position serves as a hands-on operational leader, maintaining a highly visible presence throughout the production floor and providing daily leadership, coaching, and support to supervisors, team leaders, and production employees.
The Assistant Production Manager assists in coordinating production schedules, staffing, workflow, quality, safety, and operational priorities while promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork, and employee development.
Each day begins prior to the start of production to ensure the facility is prepared for a successful shift by reviewing staffing levels, production schedules, material availability, equipment readiness, and departmental priorities. Working closely with the Production Manager, this position identifies operational challenges, implements solutions, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, safety, and customer service.
The Assistant Production Manager partners closely with the Plant Manager, Fleet Manager, Maintenance Manager, Sales Department, Human Resources, Purchasing, Shipping, and the other facility's Plant Manager and Production Manager to coordinate production priorities, parts and coil inventory, transfer truck schedules, production balancing, and customer delivery requirements.
We employ a diverse multilingual workforce. The Assistant Production Manager is expected to communicate effectively with employees of all backgrounds, foster an inclusive and respectful workplace, and lead with professionalism, consistency, fairness, and integrity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work in partnership with the Production Manager to oversee the daily operation of the manufacturing facility.
  • Ensure production schedules are executed safely, efficiently, and on time.
  • Monitor workflow across all production departments to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Assist with labor planning, workforce allocation, and production balancing.
  • Conduct regular production floor walkthroughs to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support daily production meetings and communicate priorities to supervisors and department leaders.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors, team leaders, and production employees.
  • Promote OSHA compliance, PPE use, housekeeping, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Monitor quality, reduce scrap and rework, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize Passport production software to monitor production schedules and work orders.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Purchasing, Shipping, Fleet, Maintenance, and the sister facility. - Foster effective communication across a diverse multilingual workforce.
Key Performance Indicators Safety performance, on-time production completion, production efficiency, labor productivity, scrap reduction, quality performance, overtime management, employee retention, supervisor development, housekeeping standards, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required:
* High school diploma or GED.
* Five (5) years of manufacturing experience.
* Three (3) years of progressive leadership experience.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
* Microsoft Office proficiency.
* Ability to learn Passport production software.
Preferred:
* Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
* Sheet metal manufacturing experience.
* Lean Manufacturing experience.
* OSHA safety training.
Physical Requirements
Frequent walking throughout the production facility; standing for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 30 pounds; ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs, work safely around industrial equipment, and wear required PPE.
