What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Production Graphic Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Production Graphic Designer, you need strong proficiency in layout, typography, color theory, and a solid understanding of print and digital production processes, typically supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and experience with prepress or digital asset management systems are essential. Attention to detail, time management, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and meeting tight deadlines. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality, accurate deliverables and efficient workflow, which are critical for maintaining brand consistency and meeting production schedules.

What is a Production Graphic Designer?

A Production Graphic Designer is a creative professional who specializes in preparing and finalizing visual materials for print or digital publication. They focus on ensuring that design files meet technical specifications, are correctly formatted, and are ready for production, working closely with printers, publishers, or web developers. Their responsibilities often include resizing images, adjusting layouts, and making last-minute edits based on feedback. Production Graphic Designers combine strong technical skills with an eye for detail to ensure the final product looks polished and professional.

What are some common challenges faced by Production Graphic Designers in managing multiple projects simultaneously?

Production Graphic Designers often handle several projects at once, which can make balancing deadlines and maintaining consistent quality a challenge. Prioritizing tasks, keeping organized files, and communicating proactively with team members are essential to ensure smooth workflow. Additionally, adapting quickly to last-minute changes or feedback from clients and stakeholders is a key part of the role. Developing strong project management skills and familiarity with collaborative tools can help overcome these challenges and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.

We're a collection of outdoor fanatics, product geeks, marketing mavens, and entrepreneurs all focused on pushing through boundaries, both on land, and in the water.
Holding true to our roots while evolving for the future, the family of KENT brands today includes Absolute Outdoors, Arctic Shield, Aquaglide, Arbor Snowboards, Barefoot International, BOTE, Connelly, FatSac, Freedom Foil, Full Throttle, HO Sports, Hyperlite, KENT, Liquid Force, Margaritaville, O'Brien, and Onyx.
Your Impact
BOTE is seeking a Graphic Designer to play an important role in bringing BOTE's brand, products, and campaigns to life through thoughtful, on-brand design execution. This role contributes to a wide range of creative work across marketing campaigns, product styling and graphics, packaging, retail signage, POP placements, and digital assets.
Graphic Designers at BOTE are trusted creative partners who understand both the visual language of the brand and the marketing goals behind the work. This role works closely with the Design Manager and collaborates regularly with the Director of Marketing to ensure creative output is aligned with campaign strategy, messaging, and brand standards. While primarily execution-focused, designers are encouraged to think like marketers, take ownership of their work, and contribute ideas that strengthen the final result.
What You'll Do
Design Execution & Creative Contribution
  • Design a wide range of creative assets including product packaging, product graphics and styling elements, marketing campaign assets, retail signage, POP placements, email, print, and digital content
  • Contribute to the visual look and feel of campaigns and products by executing designer-led concepts within established brand and campaign guardrails
  • Execute social media advertising creative and paid marketing assets (video editing and creator-style content production are not core requirements, but interest in contributing there is welcome)
  • Translate creative briefs and campaign direction into clear, thoughtful design solutions that support the intended message and goal
  • Take ownership of assigned projects from initial layout through final production-ready files
  • Support product design efforts from a visual and stylistic standpoint, including graphics, colorways, patterns, and overall aesthetic direction (non-functional design)

Collaboration & Creative Alignment
  • Partner closely with the Design Manager for creative direction, feedback, and mentorship
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing to understand campaign purpose, core messaging, and strategic intent behind design requests
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing, e-commerce, product, and retail teams to support ongoing creative needs
  • Provide design input and asset needs to support photography and video planning, and assist on-set during photo and video shoots to help ensure final visuals align with campaign execution
  • Respond to feedback constructively and iteratively, refining work to meet both creative and strategic goals

Quality, Consistency & Production
  • Ensure all work adheres to BOTE brand standards, visual guidelines, and production requirements
  • Prepare clean, organized, and production-ready files for print and digital use
  • Double-check layouts, packaging specs, and technical details for accuracy and consistency
  • Maintain organized working files, templates, and shared brand assets
  • Help ensure brand consistency across campaigns, products, and customer touchpoints

OTHER TRAITS YOU SHOULD HAVE
  • Passionate about the outdoor industry and the lifestyle that the BOTE brand represents
  • Strong design fundamentals with curiosity about marketing strategy and intent
  • Comfortable balancing creativity with structure and feedback
  • Action-oriented and self-motivated
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Detail-oriented and organized without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Interest in creating creator-style social content is a plus

What You've Accomplished
  • 2+ years of professional graphic design experience in an in-house or agency environment
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong design fundamentals across print and digital
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign); experience with Figma or similar tools a plus
  • Solid understanding of layout, typography, color, and production-ready file setup
  • Ability to take direction, absorb feedback, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Interest in outdoor, lifestyle, or product-driven brands is a plus

How You Thrive
You go "all out." You tend to approach everything you do with velocity. From your next exhilarating outdoor adventure to scaling meaningful peaks at work, you act with speed, direction, ethics, and forethought. Your efficiency is rooted in the knowledge that resources are not infinite. You are goal-oriented and focused on outcomes. When you see a challenge or obstacle to overcome, you jump in collaboratively to find a solution; team achievements should be celebrated more than individual performance. You are compelled to share your perspective because it is rooted in experience and synthesis thinking - you know that healthy debate yields better decisions. You are humble despite your impressive past accomplishments. Your communication style is honest and forthright, yet empathetic, with everyone.
KENT Outdoors is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
