Job Summary:
Manage the design, planning, validation and implementation of new packaging technologies, materials, line extensions, package/product improvement and technical service for Attindas Health Partners that meet product offering requirements. Deliver ideas to increase the value of the company (cost reductions, innovations, solutions, etc.). The Packaging Engineer will support both North American manufacturing locations and be expected to work cross functionally to understand and meet the needs of customers as well as proactively provide improvements to standard package designs. You'll add value to this role by performing various functions including, but not limited to:
  • Identification and quantification of cost-savings and opportunities to reduce waste, and improve efficiency packaging by optimizing pallet and container/ truck fill
  • Driving a culture of continuously improving manufacturing utilizing Lean, Six Sigma concepts & principles.
  • Supporting process qualification and validation activities leading to consistency in manufacturing and packaging.

This position requires a motivated individual that facilitates, and drives change in a fast paced and ever-changing environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills, to successfully deliver projects working with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop detailed packaging specifications from die lines to finished printed material to ensure quality materials and best value for money on all packaging components used at our facilities, contract manufacturers and co-packers, co-packers and co-manufacturers.
  • Continuously evaluate innovative new packaging materials and packaging systems for application to company products both current and future and make recommendations to the business for appropriate changes.
  • Specify new package designs in support of product initiatives, packaging design and performance enhancements, and promotional activities
  • Designs product packaging to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and storage conditions.
  • Assist with the necessary due diligence of potential suppliers.
  • Self-directed, strong, independent contributor with increased technical depth within large-scale projects applying technical skills in problem resolution
  • Develop information for and provide direction for packaging specifications, in-process control points and establish testing requirements and operating guidelines
  • Champion ideas for technology improvements, cost savings, innovation and alignment of project strategic fit. Serve as the expert for the team.
  • Analyze packaging costs, identify cost out opportunities and drive cost improvements through the organization to include pallet utilization, and trailer/ container load optimization.
  • Other activities could include running trials, leading projects beyond packaging and developing raw material specifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or 7 - 10 years of professional work experience in a packaging or product development role
  • MS Office Application experience
  • Familiarity with European packaging standards, pallets, etc.
  • Experience with artwork processes associated with printed packaging which includes: Strong knowledge of color and ways to measure and understanding of Flexographic, Rotogravure, Digital and Offset print processes.
  • Possessing strong interpersonal skills is a must as this person will effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical expertise in materials traditionally used for CPG items.
  • Experience translating concept drawings to technical die lines.
  • Ability to communicate requirements for product design and a curiosity in applying new materials or structures
  • Results-based leadership skill set with strong impact and influencing skills
  • Experienced/demonstrated ability to solve problems systematically utilizing scientific methodologies and process focus.
  • Knowledge of audits, certifications, standards, process management and management of change related to packaging

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Packaging Engineering preferred
  • Oracle or other product life cycle management software experience preferred
