We reward problem solving.What You'll DoThe Packaging Engineer will work in the front end of business helping to launch new programs to succeed in production, as well as assist with current production packaging challenges. This person will design and develop packaging solutions for new product launches, product changes and production enhancements that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost. This role will also lead and support continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives related to packaging. Based out of our corporate facility: Royal Center, this position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.Responsibilities:
  • Work with business units, financial managers, launch teams, suppliers and logistics to develop and manage costs associated with packing opportunities for potential new business awards
  • Design, develop, and test packaging solutions for product launches, product changes and production enhancements that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost
  • Interface with clients to ascertain and formulate packaging solutions that fulfill their objectives for manufacturing, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain precise documentation pertinent to packaging, including Customer Packaging Portals, Customer Packaging Data Sheets, internal Packaging Reference Sheets, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Design and implement returnable packaging solutions, calculate associated fleet size requirements, and manage the comprehensive manufacturing and logistical demands essential for maintaining a consistent and stable flow of returnable packaging.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Royal Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality personnel to ensure effective production methods are integrated into the packaging design.
  • Participate in the selection of external vendors to optimally achieve cost, timeline, and quality objectives.
  • Utilize 8D problem solving techniques to troubleshoot and resolve packaging issues
  • Work with our customers, manufacturing locations and packaging vendors to spearhead cost reduction initiatives
  • Continuously enhance packaging standards to elevate quality and reduce cost.
  • Travel less than 10%
What You'll BringQualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering or related engineering field, highly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Packaging Engineer at an Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier, required
  • Preferred experience includes product launch activities (quoting through SOP), encompassing collaboration with packaging vendors and final customers.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of novel packaging designs, oversight of packaging fabrication processes, and management of returnable packaging systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, as well as consult with customers providing excellent communication, project management, and customer service
  • Proficiency in developing comprehensive packaging design documentation and navigating intricate customer requirements within the automotive sector, including expertise with Customer Packaging Portals, Customer Data Sheets, Packaging Instructions, rigorous Testing protocols, and control plans.
