Position at Samtec, Inc
Samtec is seeking an Optics Product Manufacturing Engineer for our Colorado Springs, CO location. This is a Monday through Friday day shift position. Salary is $110,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year inclusive of applicable bonus(s) and commensurate with experience. The Optics Product Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with a broad cross-functional team to transition product designs through validation and into production through phase gate processes. The system engineer becomes the resident expert for released products, coordinating product improvements and sustainment with a cross-functional team. The successful candidate will be expected to be an effective hands-on contributor in the optics engineering team to determine and solve highly technical material and process challenges in the product lifecycle.
 
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities: 
  • Contribute to product development through Design For Manufacturing and Design For Test
  • Join product development team at the Alpha to Beta transition to ensure design is well-documented and has sufficient margin for performance validation, reliability qualification, production ramp, and manufacturing yield
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering teams to develop and Implement control plans and manufacturing tests to ensure production satisfies market needs
  • Partner with production and supply chain teams to transition designs into scalable manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Own design integrity for product after transition from Beta to production. Maintain the set of product requirements and design artifacts and coordinate engineering change management post product release.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to optoelectronic performance.
  • Track engineering orders through product development lifecycle to ensure delivery of new optoelectronic products on schedule and within cost targets

Required Experience and Skills
  • 5+ Year's experience in a relevant engineering environment with experience in taking designs to manufacturing.  
  • Expertise in product lifecycle management processes and tools, including requirements definition and management
  • Deep technical expertise in: 
    • Optoelectronic design, including optical components, semiconductor devices. 
    • Industry standard manufacturing and assembly processes, such as PCB manufacturing (plating, solder mask, SMT), epoxy dispense and cure, wirebonding, etc, their operation and common failure modes.
    • Data interpretation of common FA and reliability methods including but not limited to microscopy (Optical, Acoustic, Electron), HTHH, Thermal cycling, shock and vibration.
  • Strong team player able to engage and influence teams from design to operations, contribute to NPD projects to release and address quality/yield issues as they arise.
  • Must have excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with different levels and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
  • Demonstratable reasoning skills. Hands-on problem solving with experience in the use of FMEA, SPC, DOE, phase gate processes.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom, particularly with ESD sensitive components.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design, interpretation of drawings, CTQ and tolerance analysis (GD&T).
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously as priorities can change quickly.
Education:  
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics or a related field is required.
