About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Interim Cost Accounting Consultant to lead the transition from average costing to standard costing in a hyper-growth AI technology company headquartered in Palo Alto CA. Reporting directly to the Global Cost Controller, this role offers high visibility and the opportunity to make a significant impact in a fast-scaling, pre-IPO environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in standard costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing cost analysis, and electronics hardware manufacturing, partnering closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Finance to drive accurate product costing, improve margin visibility, and support data-driven decision-making across the manufacturing lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the migration from average costing to standard costing, including designing the standard cost framework, setting initial standards, and managing cutover with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Own the standard cost setting process, including cost rolls, labor and overhead rates, BOM validation, and ongoing product costing.
  • Manage inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, cycle counts, E&O reserves, BOMs, routings, and ERP costing accuracy.
  • Analyze and report on PPV, material, labor, overhead, COGS, gross margin, and profitability while partnering with Operations, Engineering, and FP&A on NPI/ECO costing and standard cost updates.
  • Drive continuous improvement by strengthening costing methodologies, ERP data integrity, internal controls, audit support, documentation, process improvements, and mentoring junior accounting staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA a plus).
  • 8-10 years of progressive cost accounting experience, with significant time in electronics or computer hardware manufacturing.
  • Prior hands-on experience leading or actively participating in an average-to-standard costing conversion preferred.
  • Strong expertise in standard costing, inventory accounting, variance analysis, BOMs, routings, manufacturing ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar), and NPI/ECO costing.
  • Advanced Excel skills, strong analytical and cross-functional communication abilities, and prior leadership or mentoring experience preferred.
