The Product Manager will facilitate the delivery of industry value through internal and external collaboration and an emphasis on serving the changing needs of the industry. The Product Manager will ensure development of a clear value proposition utilizing customer knowledge and experience as well as analytical data.

Essential functions:

Prioritization Owner/Project Stakeholder:

  • Manage the prioritization of user stories, features, new products, projects, and process improvements.
  • Consider cost, customer priorities, level of effort, and timing.
  • Deliver projects for assigned products in alignment with IT.
  • Manage the customer relationship with AAR committees and TAGs.

Portfolio Strategic Planning/Road-mapping:

  • Understand all aspects of the product(s) in the portfolio
  • Obtain relevant market analysis including customers, competitors, and capabilities to use in the decision and prioritization process.
  • Set goals and strategies that meet existing and potential customer needs
  • Develop timeline-based strategic plan for future product goals to drive value propositions.
  • Analyze product investment to allocate budget and resources.
  • Evaluate internal and external circumstances that may impact the portfolio.

P&L Responsibilities:

  • Deliver annual budgeted revenue and profit targets for assigned product family or families.
  • Budget product revenue by billing code on an annual basis.
  • Forecast updated product revenue by billing code on a quarterly basis.
  • Monitor labor costs and other direct expenses on a monthly basis.
  • Explain actual revenue variances to budget & forecast on a monthly basis.
  • Identify and implement near-term and long-term cost reduction opportunities.

Pricing Decisions:

  • Consider factors including value of the product or service by customer segment, magnitude of the revenue stream versus upfront and ongoing costs, and frequency of billing.
  • Make pricing decisions in accordance with Railinc’s annual pricing drivers.
  • Responsible for ad hoc pricing decisions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required:

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

Education & Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum 7 years relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration/related field (or equivalent related work experience).

Preferred:

  • AGILE/SCRUM experience and/or certified.
  • Pragmatic Marketing certified.
  • Project Management Institute certified.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work: assignment involves sitting at workstation (desk) most of the time (up to 8 hours) with only occasional walking and/or standing

Keyboarding: Primarily using fingers for typing

Talking: Expressing or communicating verbally through use of spoken words (accurately conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to others)

Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.

Visual: Through close visual acuity, required to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading (with or without correction)

Environment: work is performed within an office setting and therefore no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (i.e. extreme heat, cold, noise, etc.)

Travel: required across North America: 10-20%
