What does a procurement manager do?

A Procurement Manager is responsible for sourcing and purchasing goods, services, or materials for a company at the best possible price and quality. They negotiate contracts, manage supplier relationships, and ensure that all procurement activities comply with company policies and industry regulations. Their goal is to optimize spending, minimize risks, and ensure timely delivery of necessary items to support the organization's operations.

Job description

What it's about

Location: This candidate can be based in Denver, New York, or Zug, Switzerland.

Partners Group's portfolio procurement program works directly with portfolio company management teams to drive procurement excellence and cost optimization within PG's direct portfolio of 70+ investments across Private Equity and Private Infrastructure. The program focuses on delivering tangible EBITDA improvements while transforming procurement functions at individual companies.

The Global Portfolio Procurement Lead (Lead Operator) will own the procurement program across all regions, ensuring ongoing performance improvement, consistent global standards, and best practice sharing amongst portfolio company procurement leaders. This individual will own the global program and drive performance in-region. While their main focus will be on the portfolio, they will also get exposure to and have accountability for supporting broader Partners Group firm's (internal) procurement initiatives, especially within the investment platform.

The ideal candidate will bring deep procurement experience, strong leadership capabilities, strong quantitative skills and a genuine desire to work closely with Partners Group's portfolio management teams and investment teams.

Responsibilities

  • Global procurement program ownership: Define and manage the global procurement program roadmap, including objectives, scope, governance, standards, performance tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Driving sustainable cost impact: Deliver meaningful, recurring EBITDA improvements by defining and activating the program's key value-creation levers, partnering with third parties - including procurement consultancies - to scale impact across the portfolio, and guiding companies in building the governance, capabilities, and maturity required for long-term, high-performing procurement
  • Managing thirdparty relationships: Maintain productive, scalable partnerships with procurement consultancies and procurement service providers to ensure the program can grow with PG's portfolio.
  • Influencing senior stakeholders: Build and maintain strong relationships with PG's investment teams and portfolio company senior management to drive program adoption and ensure sustained results.
  • PG procurement: In partnership with third parties, manage delivery of key strategic initiatives to improve how PG spends in key categories, from sourcing through delivery.
What we expect
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of procurement and program/project management experience, preferably including exposure to Private Equity or Private Markets. Proven track record delivering many simultaneous multimilliondollar initiatives.
  • Program management excellence: Strong capability in managing scope, budget, timelines, and risk. We also expect a strategic thinker who can mature and scale the global program.
  • Executive presence & stakeholder management: Able to influence stakeholders across all levels-from CEOs and Boards to functional leaders and consultants.
  • Results orientation: Demonstrated ability to implement change and deliver quantifiable impact.
  • Leadership capabilities: A charismatic, entrepreneurial leader with strong business acumen, high integrity, low ego, and willingness to "roll up their sleeves" to drive outcomes.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to evolving priorities, operate effectively amid ambiguity in a fast-paced private markets environment, and work across regions, time zones, and functions to support shifting portfolio needs
