Job description

Howmet is a world leader in the investment casting industry and is a leading supplier of superalloys, aluminum, and titanium components for aerospace, automotive, and commercial transportation applications.  Our Wichita Falls location is on the front edge of the rapid growth in the aerospace and turbine industries. Nestled halfway between Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, our facility in Wichita Falls supplies jet engine components to some of the most trusted names in the Aerospace industry.
 
JOB SUMMARY

Position will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the Heat Treat processes are performed in compliance with the methods, materials and equipment specifications as required for NADCAP Certification and as detailed in the BU Heat Treat manual, business operation, and customer requirements.
  • Approve all new and revised instructions in the Heat Treat area.
  • Responsible for determination of the root cause of any deviation from critical process specifications and provide technical support to Process Engineering to resolve Heat Treat related issues.
  • Responsible for reporting the critical process status on daily and monthly basis to the Heat Treat Business Unit Process Owner.
  • Responsible for understanding downstream product quality as it relates to Heat Treat and react appropriately to observed conditions.
  • Institute proper project monitoring, follow up and feedback system to ensure financial and contract targets are met (yields, rework).
  • Foster continuous improvement utilizing process management designed experiments, IPM and SPC, Cpk.
  • Demonstrates considerable ingenuity and creativity while recognizing prudent risk.
  • As a recognized expert in the Heat Treat process technology area, provide technical guidance to management and peers in areas of current or potential needs of the plant.
  • Routinely review process for adherence to established techniques and to ensure the repeatability of approved process. Evaluate and document process changes, obtaining customer or engineering approval when required.
  • Responsible for determination of the root cause and corrective action for any deviation from critical process specifications and disposition of product
  • Work with facilities and finance departments to plan and execute projects, including capital improvements
  • Educate operators about the process and proper procedures, including creating/revising work instructions and training materials

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USED

1. Training:

  • HT501 Required Training for Process Owner to be completed and approved by the BU Thermal Process Owner.
  • A training program must be completed to acquire knowledge and skills in accordance with industry NDT standards.
  •  

     2. Work Environment: (Chemical and Physical Exposures)

  • May be exposed to noise, oil, dust, fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, or wetness.
  • Some exposure to changes in seasonal temperatures.
  • When performing Grain Etch, exposure to heat requires special safety equipment to be used and maintained (i.e., rubber gloves, aprons, boots, face shields and respirators) in non-air-conditioned atmosphere.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • B.S. in Materials Science, Metallurgical, Electrical, Mechanical, Ceramic, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant’s ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Investment Casting.
  • Knowledge of vacuum systems, PLC, vacuum heat treat furnaces
  • Knowledge of MS Office, excellent written and oral communication skills, able to work in a self-directed or team environment and have good organization skills.
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis and SPC
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Howmet Process Management a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
