The opportunity
We currently have an opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join our International Bond & Marine team based hybrid in our Morristown, NJ offices or remote nationwide. This role serves as a critical contributor to the efficiency, scalability, and execution of our placement strategy across the organization. The Business Development Manager will lead carrier placement resources, strengthen carrier partnerships, and collaborate closely with Sales and Client Service teams to deliver optimal insurance solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role combining team management, technical expertise, and operational excellence, with a strong emphasis on leveraging Applied EPIC to drive consistency, efficiency, and data integrity. Some of the Business Development Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Team Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead and manage Carrier Placement Specialists, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance oversight
  • Establish clear goals and support professional growth aligned with organizational priorities
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative team culture
  • Train and mentor team members on Applied EPIC best practices, ensuring consistent usage, accuracy, and accountability across the placement function

Culture & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Client Advisors and Account Management teams to define and execute marketing strategies
  • Ensure seamless collaboration between sales, service, and placement functions
  • Promote a client-centric, solution-oriented environment

Carrier Relationship & Performance Management
  • Partner with the Director of Insurance to maintain and expand carrier relationships
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with Strategic Carrier Partners and develop new market opportunities
  • Serve as a key liaison between the organization and insurance markets
  • Maintain deep familiarity with carrier appetite, underwriting trends, and product offerings

Placement Execution & Strategy
  • Oversee and actively participate in the placement of new and renewal business
  • Guide remarketing efforts, including submission strategy, negotiation, and carrier engagement
  • Support outbound marketing initiatives for targeted programs
  • Ensure all submission activity, carrier communications, documentation, and status tracking are consistently and accurately maintained within Applied EPIC
  • Collaborate with producers and service teams to deliver complete and competitive submissions

Analysis, Assessment & Compliance
  • Analyze submissions, exposures, and risk characteristics to inform placement decisions
  • Apply underwriting guidelines to ensure compliant and effective placements
  • Review policies, contracts, and coverage structures, identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Handle sensitive and non-routine information with discretion and sound judgment

Operational Excellence
  • Ensure high-quality preparation of submissions including loss summaries, exposure schedules, and coverage specifications
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track placement performance
  • Provide regular reporting and actionable insights to senior leadership
  • Drive consistency, accuracy, and scalability across placement workflows through disciplined use of Applied EPIC as the system of record

Process Improvement & Technology Enablement
  • Champion process optimization, automation, and scalability initiatives
  • Lead and enforce best practices for Applied EPIC utilization across placement and service workflows
  • Drive adoption of EPIC capabilities including activity management, submissions tracking, document management, and reporting
  • Identify opportunities to improve data integrity, workflow efficiency, and reporting accuracy within EPIC
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to refine workflows and enhance overall system effectiveness
  • Leverage technology and innovation to improve client retention, growth, and profitability

Market Engagement & Expertise
  • Participate in industry events, carrier meetings, and educational forums
  • Keep internal teams informed of changing market conditions and carrier capabilities
  • Maintain deep expertise in transportation and logistics insurance solutions

The expertise you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field preferred
  • Active Property & Casualty (P&C) License
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in commercial insurance
  • Demonstrated expertise in transportation & logistics risks
  • Advanced, hands-on experience with Applied EPIC (Applied Systems), including managing submissions, workflows, documentation, reporting, and ensuring data integrity across the platform
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and driving performance
  • Strong understanding of insurance markets, underwriting practices, and coverage structures

Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires; however, your recruiter will provide more specific compensation details during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $118,000 - $156,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $137,000 - $161,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:
