Principal Process Engineer

Location: Montreal, QC 

Type: Permanent Full-time

Primero America's team is currently looking for a Principal Process Engineer.            
This is a unique opportunity to join our talented team and be part of Primero's growth and success. Primero is an Australian-founded company, established in 2011 and growing consistently in Montreal since 2016. We expanded into Houston in 2022 and Toronto in 2023, strengthening our North American presence. We specialize in the design, procurement, and construction management of mineral processing plants.

The Principal Process Engineer role will be responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of process engineering functions within Primero Americas. This includes the development, organization, engineering, and oversight of all feasibility studies, laboratory testing, and control of process activities to ensure compliance with the company's safety, health, environmental, quality, completion, and production goals. Additionally, the role may involve supporting business development initiatives to maintain the workload and efficiency of the design office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the technical authority for metallurgy and process-related matters, providing expert guidance and support to teams and consultants. Focus on continuous improvements of existing facilities, including health & safety, security, work procedures, technical training and coaching, long term economics optimization of mine and processing sites and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Development of computer-based training modules for operations, Health & Safety, Sampling / Laboratory procedures and others.
  • Responsibility to complete scoping, pre-feasibility and bankable feasibility level studies.  Team building on projects, at engineering companies and mine sites.  Provided recommendation to property purchases, long / short term strategies, demerger and M&A.
  • Project development / engineering management for mineral and mining industry on various projects
  • In depth experience in mineral processing including gold / silver / lithium / cobalt recovery, sulphide and oxide flotation, gravity concentration, dense medium separation, crushing, grinding, screening, thickening, filters, etc. 
  • Business development, marketing and sales, as required

What We're Looking For: 

  • Tertiary or equivalent qualification in production and engineering
  • At least 15 years' experience in engineering, operation and/or commissioning works
  • Experience in the mining industry, with a strong focus on gold and copper operations and design.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; English essential, French an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Solid understanding of HSE principles, applicable codes, and engineering standards.
  • Skilled at reading and interpreting specifications, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Flexible, resourceful, and able to perform under pressure and continuous change.
  • Committed to delivering quality work on schedule and leading by example.
  • Business development and client relationship management experience.
  • Team-oriented, safety-focused, service-minded, and driven by integrity and company growth.
