Job description


NiSource Internship Program Introduction

NiSource is currently seeking a Summer Continuous Improvement Intern. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. This position will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in this field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.

This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Columbus, OH. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.

Job Summary
This role will assist and be under the guidance of Continuous Improvement staff working on CI projects to meet various needs within the Operational Excellence Department. This position may also require the successful candidate to evaluate and analyze continuous improvement opportunities, standardize and document processes and provide project management at various levels of complexity.
Essential Functions

  • High importance placed on the ability to express technical concepts effectively, both verbal and written
  • High consideration for those candidates with interpersonal skills which are effective in communication with internal and external customers.
  • Desire a quick learner with the willingness to remain flexible in various work assignments.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Collecting and analyzing data
  • Creating process documentation using Visio
  • Providing Project management
  • Successful candidate will start in summer 2027
  • Safety consciousness required


Required Qualifications For Position

  • Current student of an accredited, four-year Engineering program or Business program
  • Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study
  • Ability to work 40 hrs/week
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Strong analytical abilities to address process challenges.
  • Proven communication skills
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
