Process Engineer
Location: North Charleston, South Carolina
Job Responsibilities:
  • Process Improvement & Controls:
  • Utilize Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC) and Lean principles to identify root causes of manufacturing issues, minimize process variability, and improve overall operational performance.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of new manufacturing processes, equipment, and control strategies.
  • Establish and maintain statistical process control (SPC) techniques to ensure high-quality production standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Support:
  • Provide expert-level, hands-on support for complex process and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers and maintenance staff to develop their problem-solving capabilities.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends, diagnose potential problems, and proactively develop solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership:
  • Drive results by collaborating with maintenance to prioritize work orders, implement improvements, and enhance equipment reliability.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, maintenance, and R&D teams to align process development with strategic business goals.
  • Provide clear and concise communication to all levels of the organization, from front-line operators to senior management, using reports and presentations.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) and Compliance (Preferred):
  • Support and coordinate activities related to Process Safety Management (PSM) systems, including participating in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews.
  • Ensure processes and projects comply with applicable safety, regulatory, and quality standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO).
  • Technical Skills (Preferred):
  • Possess a working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to assist with process automation, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in the chemical industry, with a solid understanding of chemical processing, equipment, and safety protocols. Develop comprehensive scopes of work (SOWs) for projects, including project justification, objectives, deliverables, tasks, and resource requirements.
  • Lead and execute process-related capital projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Work with stakeholders to prioritize project activities and manage risks.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably in a chemical or similar process-intensive industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with process control and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Proven project management skills, with experience developing project scopes and delivering successful projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex data to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and influence cross-functional groups.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and industrial automation systems is a plus.
