General Purpose of Job:

Monitors sterilizers and environment for sterilization, and processes instruments and supplies for use and reuse in a safe and timely manner to meet surgical and other patient care needs within the hospital. Coordinates shift processes with sterile processing personnel and operating room staff to provide daily instrumentation requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Break down and decontaminate instruments following procedure according to protocols.
  • Set up trays and prepare for sterilization.
  • Sterilize instruments and supplies according to Operating Room, Central Processing and manufacturer protocols and standards.
  • Operate sterilizing and decontamination units using different agents to include steam, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid and glutaraldehyde.
  • Prepares packages and autoclaves items in accordance with standard policies.
  • Monitors sterilization process and maintains daily, permanent record of sterilization parameters according to hospital protocols and local, state and AAMI. standards.
  • Maintains a clean environment by following daily cleaning protocol.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and instruments.
  • Orients and mentors new and existing staff members.
  • Maintain preference cards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Related hospital experience of minimum of 1 year in care of instruments, equipment supplies

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Certification by CBSPD, HSPA or equivalent preferred.
