Orthodontic Assistant with Lab responsibilities
The primary role of the Orthodontic Dental Assistant is to assist the Orthodontist in the overall delivery of oral care and work independently to provide an exceptional patient experience. Orthodontic Dental Assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Orthodontic Dental Assistants prepare patients for oral examination and assist other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
• Assist the orthodontist during procedures, including installing braces, adjusting wires, and placing aligners.
• Prepare and sterilize orthodontic instruments and equipment.
• Fabricate and fit orthodontic appliances, such as retainers and space maintainers, under the orthodontist's direction.
• Remove braces, wires, and bands as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient records and document treatment progress.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques specific to orthodontic care.
• Maintain cleanliness and infection control standards in each operatory.
• Prepare tray setups for orthodontic procedures and ensure proper supply management.
• Instruct patients on general oral health care, as directed by the orthodontist.
• Ensure compliance with all pertinent laws and regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, ADA, and Dental Board requirements.
• Record patient charting and update records as needed.
• Take digital x-rays for treatment assessment.
• Assist in managing and maintaining the orthodontic supply inventory.
• Stay current with advancements in orthodontics and maintain required certifications.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Laboratory Responsibilities
  • Fabricate and repair removable orthodontic appliances, including retainers, Hawley retainers, Essix retainers, and bleaching trays.
  • Pour, trim, and prepare study models and working casts.
  • Prepare appliances for delivery and verify quality and fit before patient appointments.
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments to orthodontic appliances.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper operation and cleanliness.
  • Organize and track laboratory cases to ensure timely completion.
  • Assist with digital workflows, including 3D model printing, trimming, and post-processing when applicable.
  • Communicate with outside dental laboratories regarding prescriptions, case status, and quality concerns.

Knowledge and Skills:
• 1-3 years experience in an ortho practice is preferred
