Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Prepares patients before drawing blood.

  • Explains blood draw procedures to patients and answers questions about the process.

  • Verifies patient information and labels blood samples properly.

  • Accurately updates patient information in the organization's database.

  • Helps nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood draws.

  • Draws or receives, labels, and safely stores samples to be tested.

  • Determines and performs tests needed for the analysis and report.

  • Records tests and analyses and then reports the results.

  • Discusses and answers any questions regarding results with patients.

  • Organizes and stores samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the sample.

  • Cleans and maintains lab equipment, including recalibration of equipment.

  • Maintains equipment records and daily work logs.

  • Follows all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe sanitary work area.

  • Ensures supplies such as medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags, test tubes, etc. are stocked.

  • Willing to cross train in other appropriate clinic departments as needed.

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Performs work in a professional, compassionate manner

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Compassionate and caring bedside manner

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Lab or science background strongly recommended.

  • Phlebotomy certification required.
