Job description

About Positron AI
Positron AI specializes in developing custom hardware systems to accelerate AI inference. These inference systems offer significant performance and efficiency gains over traditional GPU-based systems, delivering advantages in both performance per dollar and performance per watt. Positron exists to create the world's best AI inference systems.
Role Overview
We're looking for a hands-on Lab Technician to work hand-in-hand with IT personnel and keep our hardware lab running, while also supporting the wider office's everyday IT needs. This is a physical, detail-oriented role: you'll rack equipment, run power and network cabling, and swap components inside our servers and test systems. This is a full-time, onsite position in Spokane Valley, WA, with a regular weekday schedule and no on-call expectation; occasional evening or weekend work is scheduled in advance to minimize disruption to the team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Rack and unrack servers and lab equipment
  • Run and terminate network cables
  • Swap and install components: RAM, CPUs, cards, drives, power supplies, and fans
  • Install, swap, and maintain rack power equipment - PDUs and UPSs, including UPS battery checks
  • Install network switches and servers
  • Help maintain a tidy and organized server room (shelving, cable management, etc.)
  • Help diagnose failing hardware and coordinate RMAs / warranty service
  • Help bring new machines online (imaging and basic first-boot setup)
  • Decommission and tear down equipment; keep the lab, spares, and inventory organized
  • Provide basic facilities support for the lab (e.g., HVAC air filters)
  • Support coworkers' desktops and laptops - setup, peripherals, printers, and everyday IT requests
  • Set up and maintain conference-room AV and video-conferencing equipment
  • Assist with network and wifi work, including wifi authentication (RADIUS/802.1X) and switch configuration changes

Required Qualifications
  • Comfortable working inside computer/server hardware and using common hand tools
  • Careful and methodical, with good attention to detail and respect for procedures (including ESD-safe handling)
  • Reliable and organized - keeps track of many small physical tasks
  • Comfortable helping coworkers with everyday computer and IT issues
  • Strong debug abilities - observe and collect debug, and strategize next steps
  • Able to lift and carry equipment up to ~50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in datacenter conditions (noise, varying temperatures)
  • Able to bend, kneel, and reach to run cabling and service equipment
  • Able to stand and be on your feet for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience troubleshooting electronics
  • Soldering experience
  • Prior datacenter, lab, or IT hardware experience
  • Linux familiarity
  • Desktop / help-desk support experience
  • Conference-room AV or video-conferencing setup experience
  • Networking experience: wifi, switches, RADIUS/802.1X

Leveling & Scope
While this role is currently posted at a specific level, we are a growth-oriented organization and are open to hiring at a more senior level for the right candidate. Please note that this job description serves as a focused but generalized overview of the role; specific responsibilities and impact expectations will be tailored to the experience and seniority of the final hire.
Why Join Us?
  • Get hands-on with the hardware behind Positron's custom AI inference systems - direct, tangible work supporting the lab that builds it, not just tickets and remote support
  • Broad, varied work day to day: racking servers one moment, configuring conference-room AV or wifi the next - a good fit if you like variety over narrow specialization
  • Work closely with IT and hardware engineering staff, with room to grow into more specialized hardware, datacenter, or networking responsibilities

Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range for this role is $50,000 - $115,000.
Please note that the figures provided represent the base salary range only and do not include other elements of our total compensation package, equity, or comprehensive benefits.
At Positron AI, we value the unique expertise each candidate brings. While the range above reflects our typical expectation for the position, we reserve the flexibility to exceed this range for candidates whose specialized skills, significant experience, or unique qualifications fall outside the standard scope of the role. Final offers are determined based on a variety of factors, including internal equity, and individual impact.
Benefits & Perks
We want you to do your best work and feel confident that you and your family are taken care of. That means comprehensive coverage, real time to rest, and support for your future.
Health and wellness
  • Fully company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents
  • Company-paid life and disability coverage, with voluntary options to add more
  • Supplemental hospital, critical illness, and accident coverage available

Time off and flexibility
  • Unlimited paid time off - we encourage everyone to truly unplug and recharge
  • 13 paid company holidays
  • Remote-first culture with a company-provided computer and home office setup

Compensation and future
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • 401(k) with company matching, eligible from day one

Visa Support
This position is open to candidates currently authorized to work in the U.S. We cannot provide new visa sponsorship for this role but are open to facilitating H-1B visa transfers for eligible candidates.
Equal Opportunity Employer. If you're excited about the role but don't meet every bullet, we'd still love to hear from you.
