Job description

Senior Systems Print Engineer

The Systems Print Engineers at Markforged are multidisciplinary engineers that implement processes, testing, and tooling to solve the intrinsically hard problems of building easy-to-use and "just-press-print" 3D printers.  We are the glue that pulls together the traditional engineering disciplines to make the printing process reliable and perform exceptionally.

As a Systems Print Engineer, you will become a system-level expert with our printing technology.  You will apply 1st principles and multi-disciplinary engineering to the printing process that discovers & delivers success metrics to achieve maximum printing performance.  You will be required to build strong cross-disciplinary relationships as you work together with other engineering teams to deliver results.  You will spend most of your time working in the printer labs to be hands-on with implementing & facilitating development projects.

What you will own:
  • Develop process and be hands-on with the validation of new print system hardware, new printing materials, and new printer features to ensure we ship high quality products
  • Design experiments & build tooling that apply to the printer systems to facilitate root cause analysis, validate system functionality, and identify new areas for improvement.
  • Responsible for defining & validating technical success metrics around print quality & product performance based on product requirements (e.g. part dimensional accuracy, surface quality, mechanical properties, etc.).
  • Lead root cause analysis to debug print failures internally and from the customer field, as well as work with other teams to implement fixes
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to build the knowledge required to be a printer expert, and act as the key stakeholder for print system functional requirements to meet print performance success metrics. For example:
    • Work with our slicer software team to design new print settings, then build & execute test plans to tune the settings to optimize for print performance
    • Assist our hardware teams in the design of new print system hardware by providing expertise in system functional requirements, then build & execute test plans that validate the print performance of new hardware
What you have:
  • 5+ years experience in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, systems engineering, or other relevant area
  • Bachelors in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Passion for understanding why things don't work!
  • Hands-on experience debugging hardware
