Job Summary

 

Responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in strategy and standards development, designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT systems, applications, and networks. Oversee the technical aspects of a large number of complex relevant systems and ensure they are secure, scalable, and reliable. Provide guidance on the latest technologies and trends in the industry, lead technical projects, manage vendor relationships, and communicate effectively with stakeholders across the organization and mentor fellow engineers.

To be successful as a principal infrastructure engineer, you should be able to evaluate user’s and client’s needs, time limitations, and system limitations when building solutions. A principal software Engineer is one who is up to date on new and emerging technologies and technology practices.

Key Performance Indicators 

  • System Uptime: Ensure systems are available and performing as expected.

  • System Performance: Ensure the speed and responsiveness of systems meet business requirements.

  • Innovation: Identify and implement new technologies and trends that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of systems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Technical Leadership: Providing technical leadership and mentorship to fellow engineers, developing technical standards and best practices, and ensuring that the organization's IT infrastructure is aligned with business goals.  Works cross-functionally with other engineers (outside his/her domain) across a broad set of complex technology areas to deliver solutions..

  • Technical Expertise: Staying up to date with the latest technologies and trends in the industry and providing guidance on their implementation within the organization. Contribute to technology strategy and infrastructure architecture.

  • Project Management: Assisting to ensure they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the organization's needs.

  • Security: Ensuring that all IT systems meet industry and company security standards, including monitoring, vulnerability testing, and risk management.

  • Communication: Communicating effectively to ensure that IT projects and initiatives are aligned with business goals.

  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of all relevant IT systems, applications, and networks.

  • Budget Management: Assist in managing IT budgets, ensuring that projects and initiatives are delivered within budget constraints.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identifying areas for improvement within the organization's IT systems and recommending and implementing solutions that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and overall performance.

  • Limited travel ~10%

  • On call rotation, after hours support


 

CANDIDATE SUMMARY

Required Experience

 
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in implementing and maintaining complex IT systems is required. Experience in multiple technical areas such as infrastructure, software development, security, and cloud technologies are also preferred.

  • Leadership Experience: Experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to fellow engineers is required.

  • Project Management Experience: Experience in working on technical projects from inception to completion is required.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, are required.

  • Vendor Experience: Extensive experience in working with IT vendors and service providers is preferred.

  • Budget Management Experience: Extensive experience in assisting in the management of IT budgets to ensure that projects and initiatives are delivered within budget constraints is preferred.

  • Industry Certifications: Relevant industry certifications are also preferred.

Formal Education, Qualifications or Training

 
  • 10+ Year’s experience in relevant technology functions.

  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications and or additional experience may be be substituted.
