This role is a critical hire at Illumina to enable the transformation of our new Enterprise Pricing and Financing function. We have established an exciting pricing vision to develop strategies by market, by customer type, and by application, to enable pricing options spanning pay for ownership, pay for consumption, and pay for performance. The Associate Director, Pricing will be responsible for creating robust pricing strategies and delivering insightful analytics and executive‑level materials. This leader will define enterprise‑wide pricing strategy at the customer type level, influence senior stakeholders, and drive initiatives that shape Illumina’s commercial future.

*This role will report to the Sr. Director, Enterprise Pricing and Financing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Enable Pricing Excellence & Evolution – Lead initiatives that bring the pricing vision to life across global markets.
  • Strong ability to create, articulate, and present a persuasive recommendation regarding pricing proposals within a highly cross‑functional, matrixed organization.
  • Drive change management efforts – Ensure global adoption of new pricing strategies, including developing training materials and leading internal workshops for key stakeholders.
  • Strategy & Analytics – Build pricing frameworks, models, and dashboards that inform decisions and optimize revenue; analyze various global markets to gain an understanding of compelling value propositions, competitive positioning, and the most desirable product attributes and trade‑offs and how these link to pricing strategies.
  • Implement advanced customer segmentation and personalized pricing strategies (by region, customer type/tier, or channel), leveraging data science and digital tools to maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Establish clear KPIs for pricing initiatives and lead post‑implementation reviews to monitor outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain pricing tools and concepts; understand the business case with an appreciation of financial/analytical issues and the P&L implications.
  • Partner with Marketing, Finance, Sales, and Operations to align pricing strategies with business objectives and tactical pricing execution.
  • Key partner in establishing an efficient, effective, and repeatable strategic pricing process for New Product Introductions (NPIs).
  • Collaborate with marketing to leverage competitive intelligence and incorporate into pricing scenario evaluation.
  • Champion pricing governance by developing and maintaining approval workflows, compliance monitoring, and documentation best practices to ensure audit readiness and policy adherence.
Requirements
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 15 years of experience in Pricing, Finance Business Partnering, Marketing, or Commercial Ops., or an equivalent combination of education and experience with 7+ years of management experience.
  • Preferred: MBA, or equivalent advanced degree in a related field.
  • Pricing or Six Sigma training/certification is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to tie detailed analysis to overarching strategies.
  • Experience engaging cross‑functionally to drive large programs or initiatives.
  • Strong initiative, problem‑solving ability, and sense of ownership when driving assigned projects to completion.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to influence at all levels across a matrixed organization, including Executive Level.
  • Passion for the role genomics will play in improving human health.
  • Willingness to travel based on business and training needs (up to 20%).

Compensation

The estimated base salary range for the Associate Director – Pricing Transformation (San Diego/Hybrid) role based in the United States of America is: $170,600 – $255,800. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
