Position Description
Precinct 4 is seeking a motivated and highly driven Mechanic to join our Road & Bridge (R&B) team. As a Mechanic you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing all machinery and vehicles.
You must have the ability to work diligently in a fast-paced environment and have a strong commitment to safety. A strong work ethic, initiative, a willingness to learn, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role. Candidate must have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic's tools, service, and diagnostic equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work diligently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
  • Inspect vehicle engines and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
  • Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade.
  • Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.).
  • Design a plan of action for all maintenance tasks and upgrades.
  • Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks).
  • Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
  • Examine machines and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
  • Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
  • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
  • Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.
  • Offer consultation on maintenance and preventative procedures to machine and vehicle end users.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
  • Regular full-time position, requiring the employee to work 40 hours per week.
  • This may include weekends and holidays.

Work Environment:
  • Work is on sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials.
  • Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.)

Physical Demands:
  • Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending.
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance; need the ability to occasionally kneel and crawl; need the ability to grasp manual controls and the ability to use foot controls and operate gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
