Job description

Description
Our Parish is seeking a part-time Coordinator of Music Ministries to lead our parish music program. This is more than a music position - it is a ministry. Rooted in the rich tradition of Catholic liturgy, the role fosters sung prayer that deepens our community's encounter with Christ.
The Coordinator of Music Ministries is both a skilled professional and a pastoral leader, responsible for ensuring that music is integral to the prayer, worship, and mission of the parish. The coordinator will:
  • Serve as principal organist and pianist for weekend liturgies (Saturday and Sunday), Holy Days, Christmas, Holy Week, the Easter Triduum, weddings, funerals, and other sacramental celebrations. Provide appropriate preludes, postludes, and improvisation to support the liturgical action.
  • Plan and coordinate music for all liturgies throughout the liturgical year in collaboration with the Pastor and pastoral staff.
  • Direct, rehearse, and accompany parish choirs (adult, youth, and children), including weekly rehearsals (September through May), while recruiting, training, scheduling, and mentoring cantors.
  • Support and encourage the full, active participation of the assembly in sung prayer.
  • Collaborate with the Pastor and parish staff in all liturgical celebrations and broader parish initiatives that support growth in faith.
  • Prepare and print worship aids for liturgies and contribute to the liturgical formation of parishioners and ministers.
  • Supervise the parish's music program resources, including the music budget, music library, instruments, and sound systems; ensure proper maintenance, submit bills and receipts, and maintain copyright compliance and licensing.
  • Maintain regular practice time and oversee the use and care of all musical instruments. Arrange for substitute or additional musicians as needed and process related compensation and timesheets.
  • Participate in parish staff meetings and monthly Prayer & Worship Committee meetings to support planning and coordination of liturgical events.
  • Represent the parish in professional organizations (e.g., NPM, AGO) and pursue ongoing formation in music and liturgy.
  • Uphold and demonstrate a commitment to the social, moral, and ethical teachings of the Catholic Church and its sacramental life.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will be:
โ€ข An accomplished organist/pianist, with training and experience in choral
conducting, and demonstrated excellence in parish music ministry.
โ€ข Knowledgeable in Catholic liturgy and sacred music
โ€ข A collaborative leader who works well with clergy, staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
โ€ข A practicing Catholic with a sense of vocation to serve the Church through
music.
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in music preferred.
โ€ข Experienced in directing choirs, accompanying liturgy, and leading parish music programs.
