OVERVIEW

Bridge Family Religion School (BFRS) teachers are at the heart of our vibrant learning community, inspiring students to explore their Jewish identity, connect with our history and traditions, and engage meaningfully with prayer and Hebrew. Through creative, interactive programming, they foster a sense of belonging and memorable moments. Supported by our dedicated Education Team, BFRS teachers collaborate and grow together, creating inclusive and engaging classrooms where our youngest congregants build their understanding of what it means to be a part of our Jewish community.

**Online teachers are required to have their home base in Washington State only. No out of state applicants can be considered.

• 5th/6th Grade Prayer Hebrew Teachers work on either online Tuesday or Wednesday evening or in person Wednesday evenings in Bellevue.
• K-5th Grade Modern Hebrew Teacher works at our Seattle Campus on Sunday mornings.

These are part time roles with between 4-6 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The responsibilities listed below offer a helpful overview of the role, though they don’t cover everything. As part of our collaborative and caring team, you might be asked to take on additional tasks or adjust responsibilities to best support our students, school, and community.

• Create and lead thoughtful, engaging lesson plans that reflect our curriculum and Jewish educational values.
• Teach students about the Hebrew language in a meaningful and age-appropriate way (exact content is dependent on position).
• Build a welcoming, inclusive classroom where students feel connected, encouraged, and excited to participate.
• Partner with other BFRS teachers, staff, and families to create a strong support system for each student’s learning journey.
• Communicate in a timely manner with Education Team members as well as parents and co-teachers.
• Attend professional development trainings and grade-level meetings. Stay curious and connected by exploring new ideas and bringing a growth mindset.

Teachers are paid hourly with separate hours allotted for prep-time.

Midweek Hebrew teachers have a total of 4 hrs/week. 2 hrs online/on-site and up to 2 hrs a week of prep time.

Sunday teachers typically work 3.5 hours onsite Sunday morning and have up to 2 hrs of prep-time/week.

Teachers also have the opportunity to participate in our Teacher Learning Grant where you can earn extra money by engaging in continuing education during the school year.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Temple will consider any combination of education and experience that provides a strong foundation for a person to be successful in the role.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
• Experience working with children and adolescents.
• Knowledge and practice with prayer Hebrew and/or Modern Hebrew fluency.
• Bachelor's degree in Jewish Studies, Education, or a related field preferred. College students are encouraged to apply if you have experience with children.
• Teaching certification or equivalent experience in Jewish education.
• Commitment to the values and mission of Temple De Hirsch Sinai including our Core Principles for Israel Education.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements

• Standing and Teaching: Ability to stand and teach for extended periods.
• Mobility: Capability to move around the classroom and interact with students. Moving throughout a building that is on many levels might be required.
• Event Participation: Participation in school events and activities, which may involve physical activity.
• Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying of educational materials and equipment up to 10 pounds.
• Versatility: Ability to work in various settings, including classrooms and communal gathering spaces.
• Manual dexterity: Ability to use a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
• Visual acuity: Ability to read and interpret documents, emails, and computer screens.
• Hearing ability: Ability to communicate effectively via phone, virtual meetings, and in person.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Classroom Setting: Most of the work is performed in a classroom setting, facilitating lessons and activities for students.
• Online Classroom Setting: For teaching online Hebrew you must have access to stable wifi and a computer.
• Communication: The teacher should be comfortable working in both individual and group settings, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
• Flexible Hours: The role requires flexibility, with work occurring on Sunday mornings in person and remote during the week for prep time.
• Collaborative Atmosphere: The position involves working closely with team members and other departments, fostering a collaborative and supportive work culture.
• Technology-Driven: The role requires regular use of computers, office software, and other technology tools.
• Moderate Noise Level: The school environment typically has a wide range from quiet to high noise levels, depending on the curriculum and/or activities.
• Climate-Controlled: The workspace is climate-controlled, ensuring a comfortable temperature year-round except for special events that may be held outdoors.
• Accessibility: The school has two campuses, one of which is in an older building that may be difficult to navigate for people with mobility challenges.
