Description
Training Leaders International exists to strengthen the church by sending teachers to train leaders. In order to advance our mission, we are seeking a Director of Seminary Planting. The Director will lead a cadre of U.S.-based scholars to help local denominations and church leaders around the world plant and establish pastoral training colleges and seminaries. The ideal candidate has a terminal degree in biblical studies or education, proven competency in leading a team, and possesses an entrepreneurial and persevering spirit. Candidates must excel in cross-cultural work, and have a deep commitment to and passion for the local church. Successful applicants are encouraged to move to Minneapolis. Those preferring to work remote will be required to be present in Minneapolis regularly. This position requires developing a personal support network.
Responsibilities
  • Aid the President in pursuing the vision of TLI
  • Travel overseas 2-4 times per year. The purposes for trips include:
    • Developing and assessing potential new partnerships
    • Meeting with local leaders to foster the further growth of their colleges and seminaries
    • Teaching modular courses
    • Assisting in the development of staff and volunteer instructors
  • Assist local leaders as they establish new theological colleges and seminaries. This includes helping the leaders clarify their vision for pastoral training, helping them build the framework for a new school, and supporting the school to help it become self-sustaining.
  • Lead a development process for TLI Instructors to continually improve as cross-cultural educators
  • Build team values and skills that will enable the TLI Instructors to mentor volunteer teachers as they create their courses and prepare to teach cross-culturally
  • Oversee the TLI Instructors as they take responsibility for the relationships and coordination of our school partners
  • Oversee the fulfillment of teaching obligations with our school partners. This includes recruiting volunteer instructors
  • Participate in the global theological education community through dialogue, coaching, writing, school and seminary visits, prayer, professional conferences, and other ways of giving and receiving help.

Qualifications
  • Abiding faith in Jesus Christ
  • Meets the character qualifications of a local church elder (1 Tim. 3:1-7)
  • Love for the local church and a passion to train national leaders who will plant and pastor healthy local churches
  • Ability to establish relationships and communicate cross-culturally
  • Ability to lead a team of professional educators
  • Ability to create and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in accordance with a course description from a college or seminary
  • Whole-hearted agreement with The Gospel Coalition Confessional Statement
  • Whole-hearted agreement with the vision and strategy of TLI
  • PhD, DMin, or equivalent in biblical studies or education
  • Pastoral experience preferred
