With locations across the U.S. and expertise spanning diverse markets and services, our collaborative approach empowers us to build lasting partnerships with each other, our clients, and our communities.

We believe high performance and a people-first culture go hand in hand. As an owner from day one, our colleagues thrive in an environment that values accountability, celebrates achievement, and supports personal and professional growth. Want to hear directly from our team? Visit http://www.ssr-inc.com/life-at-ssr and explore our culture on LinkedIn and Instagram.

What You’ll Do

As a Discipline Operations Manager II, you’ll lead a large, senior discipline sub‑group—owning staffing and schedules, elevating technical quality, mentoring leaders, and driving performance so our teams deliver Total Project Success for clients across offices.

  • Partner with Discipline Operations Director and peer Discipline Operations Managers to allocate weekly hours and staff across projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a large, senior discipline sub‑group; cultivate a culture of growth, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Own technical quality for the sub‑group—oversee implementation of project QA/QC plans and resolve atypical/complex design issues.
  • Ensure design services meet professional standards, client requirements, and corporate objectives; align with firm‑wide initiatives.
  • Set expectations and streamlined processes that enable strong inter‑discipline coordination and communication.
  • Coordinate with the Technical Discipline Leader to implement process improvements and discipline standards; publish procedures.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure adequate staffing and skill mix; support recruiting, onboarding, and annual performance cycles.
  • Lead development and delivery of internal technical training; facilitate mentorship pairings and communicate expectations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and manufacturers; perform engineer/PM responsibilities as needed.
  • Review and approve timesheets and expenses; support annual budgeting by gathering data and providing recommendations.
  • Partner with HR on recruitment, performance management, policy implementation, conflict resolution, and equitable pay practices.
  • Track and drive sub‑group KPIs (utilization, chargeable goals, timesheets, overtime, turnover, engagement); report progress and actions.
  • Maintain meaningful connections across locations; visit each office with direct reports at least twice per year.
  • Collaborate across business units to drive firm‑wide alignment; influence and inspire teams regardless of reporting lines.
  • Mentor Discipline Operations Managers I; share best practices and support their development.
  • Represent SSR in professional forums; monitor industry trends and integrate relevant practices into operations.

Who We’re Looking For

Minimum Requirements:

  • A registered technical professional with 7 years of experience or 15 years of applicable experience
  • 2 years of experience in personnel management, including overseeing large project teams, with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff effectively
  • Expert within the discipline of expertise
  • Active and up to date in NCEES council record, if applicable
  • Experience managing projects of small to mid-scale scope and complexity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers; general knowledge of Revit and discipline software.
  • Knowledge of contracts, project management, resource allocation, and financial/KPI fundamentals for a large technical sub‑group.
  • Clear written communication, technical writing, effective presentations, and strong speech clarity; ability to influence and build consensus.
  • Team building, mentoring, delegation, negotiation, and conflict resolution across disciplines and offices; ability to inspire without direct authority.
  • Judgment, organization, and attention to detail to orchestrate multiple activities and drive continuous improvement.
  • Active engagement with industry/professional communities; ability to bring back insights and best practices.

What We Offer

  • 100% Employee-Owned – Ownership from day one with immediate ESOP vesting.
  • Retirement Savings – 401(k) with immediate vesting and a generous company match.
  • Health & Wellness – Medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus company‑funded HSA contributions for HDHP plans.
  • Company-Paid Protection – Life insurance, AD&D, and short and long term disability at no cost to you.
  • Work-Life Balance – Flexible schedules, paid parental leave, generous PTO, and paid company holidays.
  • Career Growth – Tuition reimbursement and ongoing professional development support.
