LightEdge is looking for experienced technical individuals for our IBMi – Sr. Midrange Engineer position! As a part of the Lightedge team, this role is responsible for understanding client business and technical requirements, developing technical designs based on best practices, implementing solutions, creating documentation, and communicating effectively with both internal teams and clients. 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience supporting IBM Power System environments, IBMi systems, and related infrastructure. This position is primarily responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of IBM Power Systems running IBMi, including multiple logical partitions, message handling, command-line utilities, work management, job and print control, device management, system configuration, security administration, backup and recovery, Client Access applications, external process and file transfer integrations, as well as OS and PTF management. 

Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking is required. Experience with replication and high availability solutions such as MIMIX, iTERA, PowerHA, or similar technologies is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, administer, and support various aspects of the IBMi platform. 
  • Maintain and deploy IBMi operating system upgrades, cumulative PTF packages, group PTFs, and individual fixes. 
  • Design, administer, and troubleshoot IBMi backup and recovery solutions (BRMS) at an expert level, including Full System Flash Copy, VTL, and enterprise tape library architectures. 
  • Support replication and high availability software such as MIMIX, iTERA, PowerHA, or similar solutions.  Emphasis on MIMIX and Power HA is a plus. 
  • Support monitoring, automation, scheduling, and operations tools from Fortra such as CCSS, Robot Schedule, Robot Alert as well as others such as Nagios, Halcyon, or similar products. 
  • Perform system tuning, performance analysis, and capacity planning for IBMi systems and logical partitions. 
  • Provide Tier 3 support for escalating customer, operations, and application issues. 
  • Assist with object-level implementations while following IBMi object-level security best practices. 
  • Manage multiple workstreams while maintaining focus on timely, accurate, and high-quality results. 
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in a large enterprise and customer-facing environment. 
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation as required. 
  • Perform basic IBM Power System hardware maintenance and support activities. 
  • Understand, recommend, and implement IBMi system and user security best practices. 
  • Provide technical support, training, and direction to NOC staff and other team members. 
  • Configure LPAR’s and configure systems using both traditional Hardware Management Console and Virtual HMC. 
  • Work directly with vendor support organizations to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. 
  • Strong working knowledge of IBM BRMS Enterprise environments a plus. 

Education And Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience administering and supporting IBM Power Systems and IBMi environments. 
  • Strong knowledge of IBMi Power Systems administration, troubleshooting, and performance management. 
  • Strong knowledge of IBMi high availability setup, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting using MIMIX, iTERA, PowerHA, or similar technologies. 
  • Proficiency in planning and executing IBMi operating system upgrades, HMC updates, firmware updates, and related infrastructure maintenance. 
  • Proficiency in IBMi work management, including subsystems, job queues, job scheduling, job monitoring, and performance tuning. 
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, TCP/IP configuration, and NETSTAT troubleshooting within IBMi environments. 
  • Knowledge of IBMi networked systems, access controls, security guidelines, and administrative procedures. 
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues involving IBMi-based critical applications, operating system components, hardware, storage, and connectivity. 
  • Experience with PowerVM and VIOS is preferred. 
  • Experience with PowerVC, IBM PowerVS, and Live Partition Mobility(LPM) is preferred. 
  • Experience with LPAR design, build, configuration, and validation is preferred. 
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with other LightEdge employees, customers, vendors, and technical teams.
