POSITION SPECIFICS

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Electrochemical Engine Center (ECEC) in the field of large-scale computations for polymer electrolyte fuel cells. This position is under the direction of Dr. Chao-Yang Wang.

Job Duties:

  • We are looking for talented, ambitious, and hard-working candidates, especially those with experience in two-phase transport, heat transfer, and fuel cell electrochemistry

  • The ECEC, directed by Prof. Chao-Yang Wang, is a multi-disciplinary research program concentrating on advanced batteries and fuel cells for vehicle electrification, renewable energy storage, and power grids

  • The group is known for cross-fertilization of electrochemistry, materials, manufacturing, diagnostics, CFD modeling, and system engineering

  • The center has extensive computational and experimental facilities

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields by the start date

  • Strong prior experience in large-scale calculations using CFD

  • Strong skills in CFD for complex geometries, and parallel computing

  • Development of advanced algorithms for problems involving very large mesh (tens and hundreds million)

  • Skills in AI-enabled and GPU-based calculations are welcome

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to work independently to solve critical problems
