With guidance, the appointee will:

  • Develop advanced multiscale, multiphysics simulation tools relevant to the modeling of processes involving combined nuclear, chemical, and electrochemical phenomena

  • Create new reduced-order models and submodels related to fluid flow, heat transfer, thermochemistry, and electrochemistry in reactive systems

  • Use modeling tools such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to develop and optimize new processes and equipment designs using high-performance computing

  • Develop process- and facility-scale models as the foundation for digital twins of chemical processing facilities with relevance to critical materials and nuclear reprocessing

  • Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, prepare technical reports for sponsors, and attend and make presentations at scientific meetings

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and Laboratory management through status updates, technical research reports, project presentations, and other regular channels.

Position Requirements

  • A formal education in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field at the PhD level with zero to five years of experience.

  • To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.

  • Skill in modeling, processing, and analyzing computational results to inform accompanying experimental efforts.

  • Skill in the use of modern collaborative coding practices

  • Demonstrated experience with the application of multiphysics modeling to model complex physical phenomena

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to model Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
