Job description

Automatic Pool Covers is seeking a Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineer to support the design, development, and manufacturing of industry-leading automatic pool cover systems. This role is responsible for improving product designs, increasing manufacturing efficiency, troubleshooting production issues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while collaborating with production, quality, purchasing, and customer support teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and improve mechanical components and assemblies for automatic pool cover systems.

  • Create and revise 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).

  • Develop manufacturing processes that improve quality, safety, and productivity.

  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through product and process improvements.

  • Provide engineering support to manufacturing by troubleshooting production issues and implementing corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with Quality to investigate product failures and identify root causes.

  • Work with Purchasing and suppliers on component sourcing, quality improvements, and cost reductions.

  • Support new product development from concept through production launch.

  • Develop work instructions, assembly procedures, and manufacturing documentation.

  • Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, and product testing.

  • Ensure products comply with applicable engineering standards and safety requirements.

  • Assist with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and document control.

  • Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Analyze production data and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Travel occasionally to suppliers, dealers, or customer locations as needed.

 Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.

  • 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Experience with sheet metal, aluminum fabrication, machining, and mechanical assemblies is preferred.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and project management abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.

  • Experience with ERP systems and engineering documentation.

  • Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.

  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen.

  • Understanding of hydraulics, electric motors, drive systems, bearings, gearboxes, and corrosion-resistant materials is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in both an office and manufacturing environment.

  • Frequent walking throughout the production facility.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to inspect products, machinery, and manufacturing processes on the production floor.
