Job description

About Legis1

Legis1 is a congressional intelligence platform that goes beyond tracking legislation to reveal who's actually driving it. By combining over 45 years of congressional and lobbying data, we connect bills, lawmakers, staff, lobbyists, and funders into a single networked intelligence system. Spun out of the nonpartisan Sunwater Institute in 2025, Legis1 is built for professionals who need to understand how policy and influence really move through Washington.

In Q3 2026, Legis1 Inc. launched AllCiv, a civic engagement, political data, and citizen-facing media platform that brings this same intelligence to the public through civic technology, transparency tools, and AI-assisted engagement.

POSITION

We're looking for a Junior Data Analyst to join our Data team and support Legis1, our legislative intelligence platform. This role sits at the intersection of politics and data, you'll work closely with the day-to-day integrity of the political data that powers Legis1, while using SQL and modern AI-assisted tools to generate insights for stakeholders across the company.

This is an ideal position for someone who has a genuine passion for politics, government, and how Congress works, and who wants to apply that knowledge in a data-driven role. We are specifically looking for candidates with a political background and hands-on exposure to political data, not generalist data analysts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect, maintain, and monitor Legis1 data to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Use SQL and AI-assisted tools (e.g., Claude Code) to query databases and generate reports that support internal stakeholders across product, data, sales, and marketing teams
  • Research new potential data sources and develop a solid understanding of the underlying legislative/political subject matter
  • Build data ingestion pipelines and scrapers
  • Own day-to-day quality control of the data on Legis1
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve data quality-related bugs
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to translate data findings into actionable insights

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • A deep understanding of U.S. politics and how Congress operates (legislative process, committees, bill tracking, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience working with political data - whether through academic coursework, internships, research projects, campaigns, or prior work experience
  • A basic understanding of SQL, with the ability to write and troubleshoot queries
  • Exposure to or interest in using LLM tools (such as Claude Code or Codex) to assist with data analysis and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-first mindset when it comes to data accuracy
  • Curiosity and initiative to research and evaluate new data sources independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

PREFERRED EXPEREINCE

  • Prior experience with legislative tracking tools or government data platforms
  • Prior experience with voter file data or software
  • Familiarity with data visualization or reporting tools
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup or SaaS environment
$65,000 - $78,000 a year

Benefits: Paid comprehensive health insurance (including dental and vision), 401(k) with company matching, and generous paid time off.
