Job Summary/Description:
WTOC is searching for the right candidate to join our digital team. This role is on the frontlines of breaking news, designed to help inform readers and ensure WTOC content is optimized for multiple platforms. If you're someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment where stories can change in a matter of seconds, this job is for you!
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Produce compelling content for all digital platforms, including the station website, streaming apps, news app, and video and push alerts
- Write accurate, grammatically correct, editorially sound AP-style news stories
- Respond quickly and efficiently to developing news; accurately report breaking news on digital and social platforms
- Create engaging content for social media platforms
- Consistently execute SEO strategies
- Collaborate with assignment editors, reporters, producers, and other news staff to ensure the most accurate and updated information is reflected on the station's digital properties
- Uphold the station's high journalistic standards
- Co-ordinate live streams across multiple platforms.
- Monitor news sources to develop news content.
- Collaborate and communicate with reporters, other digital team members, producers, anchors, and managers to gather content for online and on-air.
- Write engaging digital headlines and compelling captions for social media.
- Explore ways to increase visual content on all digital and social media platforms.
- The position may require evening and weekend work.
- The position may include being on camera on WTOC+ streaming platforms.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Strong writing skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage time appropriately.
- Experience with writing for an online audience.
- Knowledge of social media trends and platforms.
- A college degree in journalism or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Background in graphic design or skills with programs like Photoshop, Canva, etc., desired but not required.
