Job Summary: This role is dedicated to safeguarding healthcare facilities, staff, visitors, and patients by efficiently performing police and security duties. The officer applies regional criminal and traffic laws while enforcing facility policies to maintain a safe environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Respond promptly to incidents requiring police intervention within healthcare properties during assigned shifts.
  • Enforce and report violations of state laws and facility policies through proper channels.
  • Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols across hospital buildings, grounds, offsite locations, and parking areas.
  • Protect property and individuals from theft, vandalism, and other unlawful acts, investigating and taking necessary enforcement actions.
  • Maintain familiarity with all campus layouts to perform security checks and respond to service calls effectively.
  • Respond to alarms including fire, intrusion, panic, and emergency alerts.
  • Document and submit lost and found items promptly.
  • Complete detailed reports using designated software, including photographic evidence when applicable.
  • Report facility emergencies and follow up to ensure timely assistance.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement agencies and emergency services as needed.
  • Enforce parking regulations, issue violations, and arrange towing when necessary.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with key control and escort visitors, staff, and patients as requested.
  • Maintain communication with prosecutorial offices regarding arrestees and charges.
  • Process crime scenes and evidence, ensuring proper chain of custody and documentation.
  • Conduct interviews, interrogations, and investigations related to incidents on property.
  • Testify in court when summoned, maintaining professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Investigate vehicle crashes on property, documenting findings thoroughly.
  • Participate in regular and mandated training sessions to maintain certifications and skills.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies for information sharing and coordinated efforts.
  • Manage information release through designated communication channels, avoiding direct media contact unless authorized.
  • Maintain peace, de-escalate conflicts, and manage crowd control during events or emergencies.
  • Use police radio effectively and comply with laws regarding use of force, including readiness to apply necessary force up to deadly force when justified.
  • Maintain proficiency and certification in firearms and Taser use.
  • Ensure uniform and equipment are maintained and worn properly throughout shifts.
  • Be available for emergency call-outs and shift coverage as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all security and police matters.
  • Provide excellent customer service and act in a helpful manner at all times.
Supplemental Responsibilities:
  • Serve as liaison with city, county, and state police and fire departments.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties such as submitting work orders, conducting fire drills and extinguisher checks, managing access cards and IDs, regulating traffic during special events, assisting with morgue duties, and transporting arrestees.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of ILEA Tier II training within one year of appointment, with certification provided.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant law enforcement experience, including sheriff's departments, state police, local agencies, corrections, or hospital security.
  • Ability to perform under stress and adapt to on-the-job training.

Work Shift: Fourth shift, 40 hours per week.
This position is located in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States.
