Job Description: Fractional Bookkeeper (Contract position)
Company: Waller Group
Location: Uptown Dallas 3100 Monticello suite 105 Waller Group Properties
Engagement Type: Short-Term Consulting / contract position for initial engagement and then apx 15 hours per month ongoing.
Compensation: $50,000 - 85,000+ Performance Bonus (based on defined milestones)
Company Overview
We are a privately held multifamily property management and commercial brokerage firm with approximately $5,000,000 in annual revenue and apx 3,000 accounting entries a month, own and operate 5 multifamily properties as well as a small business. As we optimize our internal accounting systems, quickbooks for company level and resman for property level. we are seeking an experienced Fractional Controller or property accountant to help streamline our financial reporting, reconciliation processes, and system integrations.
Engagement Summary
The ideal candidate will be experienced in multifamily and or property management accounting as well as small business accounting. They will make appropriate adjustments to monthly bank reconciliations, (apx 11 accounts per month, including credit cards) budget variance audits, review property financials to ensure accuracy, prepare procedures for asset manager to follow
Key Responsibilities
• Review and reconcile key accounts across operating and escrow bank accounts, prepaid expenses, and intercompany balances
• Clean up outstanding items in general ledger and verify transactions across multiple entities
• Refine month-end close procedures
• Validate or correct classification of property-level financial data (e.g., utilities, payroll, repairs, capital expenditures)
• Work alongside ownership and third-party bookkeepers to identify and resolve accounting inconsistencies
• Provide a brief written summary report with findings, changes made, and recommendations for ongoing financial control to owner
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of accounting or controller experience, ideally within real estate, property management, or related fields
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting, cash flow reporting, and intercompany transactions
• Proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop or Online) and Excel
• Experience with general ledger cleanup, bank reconciliations, and journal entries
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication skills and professionalism in delivering findings and recommendations
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with multifamily or commercial property operations and accounting
• Familiarity with Podio, AppFolio, ResMan, yardi, realpage, quickbooks or other property management systems
• CPA or relevant financial credential (inactive license acceptable) GAAP accounting experience
Performance Bonus Opportunity
A performance bonus will be awarded upon successful completion of:
• All 5 entities to be prepared for 2025 tax preparation with CPA, and Q1 and Q2 updated
• Delivery of a clear expectations for asset manager/accounting administrator to follow
• Implementing time-saving process improvements and training for current property accountant documented and integrated into company best practices.
