The Point of Sale (POS) Solutions Platform Engineer will join the POS Warehouse team providing senior expertise and leadership for Costco's Global POS environments. The Platform Engineer will focus on warehouse POS systems and all strategic and tactical planning of the environments required to meet Costco-specific business needs. The Platform Engineer will work with Solution Architects, Systems Analysts, Project Managers, and the business operators to understand functional requirements and contribute to the development of the overall architecture.

Platform Engineers translate high level platform design into low level technical design and are responsible for implementing, administering, supporting and patching their corresponding platforms. Platform Engineers work closely with team members to enable the capabilities defined on roadmaps and blueprints supporting platform programs and initiatives. Platform Engineers are well versed in modern data, infrastructure and integration platforms, industry/technology best practices and actively work on improving the reliability and scalability of infrastructure.

ROLE

  • Collaborates with delivery pods and Architects to improve production deployments, platform operations, and environment stability.

  • Assesses technical components, translates high level design into low level technical design and executes updates based on SLAs.

  • Manages the platform on an ongoing basis while performing typical run functions like monitoring, patching and support.

  • Leads and conducts code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging activities at the application level.

  • Conducts regular platform checkups and reports inefficiencies to relevant business and technology stakeholders.

  • Collaborates with infrastructure and/or provisioning groups to stand up the platform.

  • Acts as a team leader and can mentor others.

  • Works well independently and in a team environment.

  • Follows Enterprise standards for security, compliance, and best practices.

  • Understands and adheres to Costco's project methodology and framework.

  • Develops and documents environment topologies and standards.

  • Seeks opportunities to automate, document, share, educate, and improve processes where appropriate.

  • Implements and maintains enterprise class Point of Sale solutions that support enterprise integration services and hosts.

  • Designs and implements a toolset that simplifies provisioning and supporting of a large enterprise distributed Point of Sale environment.

  • Plans and executes major platform software and operating system upgrades and maintenance across a highly virtualized or cloud environment.

  • Creates technical content (architecture and design) that meets business requirements.

  • Analyzes available assets (frameworks, reference architectures, etc) to bridge the gap between the as-is architecture and the to-be architecture.

  • Addresses compliance requirements such as Payment Card Industry (PCI), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).

REQUIRED

  • 10+ years experience analyzing, designing, integrating, and implementing POS solutions

  • Knowledge of and skilled in systems analysis, logic diagramming, test debugging, system software, systems testing, systems implementation, hardware computer operations and documentation standards.

  • Experience developing and configuring Windows Server, Toshiba 4690 OS, Toshiba SurePOS ACE Application, IBM Data Integration Facility, IBM Store Integrator, Toshiba ELERA, and Linux systems in a highly available and high-volume environment.

  • Share technical knowledge and clearly communicate technical concepts.

  • Experience with process and controls surrounding enterprise compliance of Payment Card Industry (PCI), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) standards

  • Possess excellent technical leadership skills.

  • Inquisitive, responsible, conscientious and possess a passion for excellence.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to develop integration patterns, processes, and standards for messaging

  • Demonstrated proficiency with scripting languages such as (PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, etc.)

  • Communicates trade-offs and transactional states with technical and business teams.

  • Proven ability to partner with others in the area or company to deliver quality solutions.

  • Able to work effectively and produce consistent results with a minimum of supervision. Self-motivated, responsible, conscientious, and detail-oriented.

  • Able to work well under pressure and handle crisis situations professionally.

  • Ability to easily adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.

  • Must be self-motivated, responsible, conscientious, and detail-oriented.

  • Must have proven ability to set and follow priorities and timeline.

  • Excellent understanding of the challenges surrounding efficient operations and failure mode analysis in large complex distributed systems.

  • Scheduling flexibility to meet the needs of the business, including 24x7x365 environment, on-call, and on-location as required.
