AdviseMI
AdviseMI is an AmeriCorps program hosted by the Michigan College Access Network. Members in the program serve as college advisers in selected high schools or as coaches in selected colleges across Michigan, particularly high schools and colleges that are in communities with low college-going rates and low adult educational attainment rates. Members placed in high schools serve alongside high school counselors and other school professionals; advisers support students as they make the transition from high school to postsecondary education. After an intensive training, advisers will be poised to help students navigate the complex college exploration process, retake college admissions tests, apply to colleges that are a good match, complete the FAFSA, secure financial aid, and matriculate to college. Members placed in colleges provide support to a defined cohort of 100-150 students who experience the most college-going barriers, with a focus on increasing college persistence and completion. Completion Coaches advocate for students and foster connections, integrate into the campus support structure, and identify community resources to support student basic needs. Working in partnership with professional campus staff, coaches will organized group activities, facilitate 1:1 meetings, and provide reminders of key activities (such as course registration deadlines and FASFA completion workshops) via electronic campaigns). After an intensive training, coaches will be poised to help students navigate the complex college systems and processes, identify campus and community resources, establish a sense of belonging to ehlp them successfully persist to completion. Members serve a minimum of 1,200 hours over 9.5 months, 40 hrs/wk and a required to complete program training, live within 45 minutes of the service site, and Adhere to all regulations and requirements of AmeriCorps members
Member Duties : - Engage with a cohort of students to provide one-on-one support with the college going steps (for members placed in high schools) or provide support for students as they navigate their college experience (for members placed in colleges) - Organize and facilitate group activities, events, and classroom presentations/workshops to support students with the college-going steps (for members placed in high schools) or to support students in navigating their college journey (for members placed in colleges) - Identify, collect, and interpret key progress and outcome data to evaluate effectiveness of AmeriCorps member interventions on a daily and weekly basis - Submit qualitative and quantitative data reports - Participate fully in mandatory program training - Adhere to all regulations and requirements of AmeriCorps members from the AmeriCorps Agency and the Michigan Community Service Commission
