Job description

Security Advisor

This position works at least four days a week in the Miami Lakes Corporate Office and travels throughout the BankUnited footprint. Provides security expertise in all facets of physical security, assessments and audits, and administers security training to all lines of business and provides innovative solutions to security concerns and issues. Protection of assets, staff and visitors is essential in providing a safe working environment.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.

  • Audits surveillance cameras and video recorders, and camera angles to ensure all physical security measures are effective and enforced properly.
  • Assesses all branch locations and provide a summary for each detailing the branches' location, physical description, surroundings, and nearby businesses.
  • Trains branch staff on alarm procedures.
  • Visits neighborhood branches to train associates on physical security procedures and educates branch personnel on how and when it is required to enforce policies such as the no hats, no hoods, and no sunglasses procedure, post robbery procedures, proper use of physical security equipment, etc.
  • Participates in meetings related to branch construction to ensure security requirements are met, including the strategic placement of cameras and scheduling installation of the security systems.
  • Keeping the Corporate Security Department informed of new technological advances or discoveries in the field by attending informational seminars and conferences.
  • Controlling access to door entrances and exits and maintaining the master key system.
  • Provide new and replacement badges.
  • Fingerprint new employees/contractors.
  • Act as a liaison between Corporate Security's contract vendors and BankUnited.
  • Provides and maintains authorized alarm users with alarm codes.
  • Responds to requests relating to physical security issues when necessary.
  • Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
  • Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
  • Identifies and reports suspicious activity.

Education: Associate's Degree Criminal Justice and/or Risk Management preferred

Experience: 4-6 Years of related experience preferred

Physical security experience within financial institutions preferred

Experience in preparing a training curriculum and the capability of executing the program required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Industrial Security Professional (IS) Physical Security Professional (PSP) preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The applicant should be able to read floor plans and/or blue prints in order to effectively communicate with Architects on strategic placements of surveillance cameras and other physical security devices.
  • The Security Advisor position requires 75 % travel within the State of Florida and occasional out-of-state travel.
