Responsibilities

  • Works with program managers, project managers, and engineering manager to ensure resources are optimally place on projects.
  • Works with project managers to identify methods to improve project execution, work processes, and procedures to continually improve quality, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Proactively supervises staff by coordinating design tasks with project managers, project engineers, and project leads.
  • Ensures staff stay on task and perform duties within allotted timeframes.
  • Performs technical oversight and coordinates checking/reviews of deliverables and other project documents.
  • Responsible for the development and training of engineers, designers, and drafters within the group.
  • Conduct’s group meetings with staff as needed to communicate department and company objectives.
  • Approves timesheets and authorizes overtime and vacation. May also approve expense reports.

  • Maintains a collaborative environment within the group, ensuring all team members are contributing to the group’s success.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and select team members for specific projects based on skill sets of individual staff members.
  • Is well organized and is well-versed in the design capabilities/limitations of all design team members with the group.
  • Creates an environment conducive to efficient workflow.
  • Shows initiative by taking on additional work responsibilities when the department or group is overloaded.
  • Establishes, promotes, and assures quality on all projects and work performed by the group.
  • Promotes a strong safety culture within the group and ensures staff incorporates safe work practices into all activities.
  • Candidate must be willing and able to report to office in either Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Lakewood twice a week.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience in the substation/utility industry, with at least 2+ in substation physical design.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Previous management experience is preferred, but not required.
  • FE certification in highly desirable, ability and will to attain PE is required.

Annual Salary Range

$88,590.00 - $100,800.00

The expected compensation is a range determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate, internal equity, work location, and hiring department’s fiscal resources.
