Stanley Consultants is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Principal Substation Physical Engineer with a strong background in high voltage substation design.ย Technical responsibilities will include the design of any / all the following: high and low voltage substation physical designs; computer modeling/analysis of electrical systems; preparation of specifications for equipment and systems; report preparation; applying codes and standards and performing and reviewing design calculations.

Position will be responsible for leading design efforts and performing design duties with minimal supervision on multiple projects. Must be able to determine client requirements and coordinate technical efforts within discipline areas as necessary, coordinate with other disciplines as needed, manage a design budget and schedule, and be able to demonstrate proficiency in these areas.ย 

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Detailed physical design for high voltage substations
  • Generating single line diagrams and general arrangements
  • Detailed Elevations and section views
  • Assembly and installation details
  • Detailed bills of materials, bid units and material counts
  • Coordination with other disciplines as needed
  • Performing site visits for data gathering
  • Writing material procurement and construction specifications & evaluating contractor bids
  • Reviewing shop drawings
  • Researching equipment and client standards
  • Performs typical calculations such as equipment and conductor sizing, grounding and lightning protection
  • Generating engineering fee estimates
  • Providing field support during construction
  • Mentors and teaches less experienced engineers and design staff
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required for client meetings and or site visits
Required Qualifications:
  • BS from and ABET accredited University
  • 15+ years ofย substation physicalย design experience
  • Experience working directly with clients, supporting marketing proposals/efforts preferred
  • Experience managing a design budget and schedule preferred
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work legally in the United States for any length of time
  • PE license required
