Serving approximately 14,000 New Yorkers annually, we address barriers to educational achievement, economic security, and career stability through three key program areas:
  • Education and School-Day Programs: Offering pre-kindergarten services, community schools, after-school programs, and college access counseling.
  • Sector-Focused Training and Employment Placement Pathways: Providing specialized training, employment placement pathways, Summer Youth Employment, Work Learning Grow initiatives, and aiding residents in accessing new employment opportunities.
  • Community & Economic Empowerment Services: Enabling community progress through community centers, resident services, food access, financial literacy programs, and support accessing benefits and wellness services.

Position Summary:
The Activity Specialist will be able to provide daily hands on activities in their specialty area. The Activity Specialist will teach a weekly class in a specific content area (ie. athletics, fitness, gaming, cooking) in our program designed to improve youth development, leadership and civic engagement, social-emotional learning, sports-based youth development, and academics. This dynamic specialist will use activities as a vehicle to promote healthy social, physical, and emotional development.
Salary: $19 to $25 per hour and is commensurate with education, training, experience and program size
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work individually with students, and collaborate with staff to provide an enriching learning experience for all participants
  • Create individualize learning plan for each participant or cohort based on academic strength/area of specialty.
  • Establish a comfortable learning environment and implement clear, consistent age-appropriate expectations
  • Document student progress
  • Maintain accurate participant attendance, activity and sign-out records
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization
  • Model appropriate child development practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director

Qualifications:
  • HS Diploma or HSE; 3-5 years proven experience in activity area
  • Experience with the design and implementation of group activities
  • The ability to work with young people at multiple grade levels and varying stages of development.
  • Previous experience working in an urban environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacy
  • Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred
  • Enthusiasm, creativity and initiative
  • A sense of humor and a sense of urgency
