Job description

Acuity is seeking a General Manager โ€“ Personal Lines Underwriting to oversee the strategic direction, management, and growth of the personal lines department. This role leads and coaches a group of Managers to ensure the integrity of underwriting processes while maintaining high levels of productivity. The GM reviews results across each state in comparison to Acuityโ€™s overall performance and proactively addresses any concerns, while also performing routine evaluations of workloads to ensure balance within the department. The position collaborates closely with other departments to stay informed on market developments, implement procedural changes, and support the organizationโ€™s overall goals. Additionally, this role assists in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

  • Serve as a key stakeholder in the Personal Lines space, collaborating with cross-functional departments to provide feedback and ideas, contributing to the overall direction and success of initiatives.
  • Provides counsel, advice, coaching and guidance on complex underwriting decisions, risk selection, pricing, and risk assessment all in adherence to company guidelines and standards.
  • Works together with Market Strategy, Actuarial, and Distribution to ensure a growing book of profitable business.
  • Oversees book roll (conversion) initiatives to ensure alignment with underwriting appetite, profitability objectives, and portfolio optimization goals.
  • Reviews and approves all risks exceeding the Managers โ€“ Personal Underwriting.
  • Evaluates quality reviews completed by Managers โ€“ Personal Underwriting.
  • Ensures that Personal Underwriters and Managers โ€“ Personal Underwriting visit an appropriate number of agencies.
  • Monitor underwriting trends, emerging risks, and competitor strategies to stay ahead of market developments.
  • Participate in executive meetings and provide updates on underwriting performance, key initiatives, and market conditions.
  • Ensures that service standards are met.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and assist in providing continuing education to Personal Underwriters and Managers โ€“ Personal Underwriting.
  • Actively supports and communicates company directives.
  • Reviews workloads so that work is evenly distributed.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Implements changes in procedures to allow timelier and more efficient workflow.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

A college degree from an accredited institution. CPCU, CIC or related insurance designations preferred. ย 

EXPERIENCE:ย 

At least ten years of personal lines insurance industry experience, with leadership experience preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An understanding and broad knowledge base concerning personal underwriting.
  • Use clear, intentional communication to align teams and drive results through collaborative efforts.
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders to work toward common goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agency personnel to support sound underwriting decisions.

The salary range for this position is $175,000 - $225,000 annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary will vary based on applicantโ€™s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.ย
