Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site

Compensation: $25-$30 per hour, DOE

About the Role

Block LLP is seeking a Personal Injury Litigation Assistant to join our growing litigation team. This role will support attorneys throughout the litigation process by assisting with pleadings, discovery, court filings, case deadlines, client communication, and trial preparation.

We welcome candidates with either legal assistant or paralegal experience. The ideal candidate has at least one year of paralegal experience or three or more years of legal assistant experience. This is a great opportunity for an experienced legal assistant ready to take on more substantive litigation responsibilities or a junior paralegal looking to continue developing their skills.

This is a full-time, on-site position at our Burbank office.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, format, proofread, file, and serve pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and other litigation documents.
  • Calendar and monitor court deadlines, hearings, depositions, medical examinations, and other important case dates.
  • Assist attorneys with written discovery, document collection, medical records, exhibits, deposition preparation, and trial preparation.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, medical providers, and other parties.
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic case files.
  • Update case information and activity in the firm's case management system.
  • Assist with scheduling depositions, client meetings, court appearances, and other case-related appointments.
  • Provide clients with attentive, compassionate, and professional service.
  • Support attorneys and the litigation team with additional tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • At least one year of paralegal experience or three or more years of legal assistant experience.
  • Litigation experience and familiarity with California civil procedure, court filings, discovery, and calendaring.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional and compassionate approach to client communication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and other members of the legal team.
  • Must be able to work full-time and on-site at our Burbank office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Plaintiff-side personal injury litigation experience.
  • Experience preparing pleadings and written discovery.
  • Experience assisting with depositions, mediations, and trial preparation.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
