What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Permanent RAN Optimization Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Permanent RAN Optimization Engineer, you need a solid background in telecommunications, RF engineering, and cellular network concepts, often supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with network optimization tools (such as TEMS, Atoll, or Actix), drive test software, and relevant industry certifications (like CCNA or 5G certifications) is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring optimal network performance, efficient troubleshooting, and collaboration across technical teams.

What is a Permanent RAN Optimization Engineer?

A Permanent RAN Optimization Engineer is a telecommunications professional responsible for analyzing and improving the performance of Radio Access Networks (RAN) on a long-term, full-time basis. Their main duties include monitoring network performance, identifying issues, and implementing solutions to optimize signal quality, capacity, and coverage. They work with technologies such as 4G LTE and 5G, using specialized tools to ensure efficient data and voice transmission. These engineers collaborate with other technical teams to enhance user experience and support the rollout of new network features.

How does a Permanent RAN Optimization Engineer typically collaborate with network operations and planning teams?

As a Permanent RAN Optimization Engineer, you’ll regularly collaborate with network operations and planning teams to ensure optimal radio access network (RAN) performance. Your role often involves analyzing network KPIs, sharing insights on coverage or capacity issues, and coordinating technical solutions like parameter tuning or hardware upgrades. Effective communication and cross-functional teamwork are essential, as you'll work together to identify bottlenecks, implement enhancements, and monitor post-optimization results. This collaborative approach helps deliver a high-quality mobile experience for end users.

The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.
| WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer with deep automotive manufacturing expertise to help build and refine world-class production systems. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of assembly processes, tooling, equipment integration, and process optimization within General Assembly or related automotive environments. You will play a critical role in designing, validating, and improving the processes that drive safety, quality, throughput, and cost performance. Beyond technical capability, we're looking for someone who elevates others, communicates with clarity, and helps shape the culture of a new, fast-moving manufacturing organization. This is a rare opportunity to build processes from the ground up in a mission-driven environment.
| WORK AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
| WHAT YOU GET TO DO:
  • Develop, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes within the Slate Production System (SPS).
  • Lead process development for new and existing products, including workstation design, tooling integration, and ergonomic assessments.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by creating process flows, PFMEAs, control plans, standard work, and launch readiness documentation.
  • Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, improve cycle times, and enhance process capability and repeatability.
  • Drive structured root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process-related issues originating from the plant, field, or suppliers.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain to ensure process strategies align with product requirements and build plans.
  • Support layout development, equipment selection, and material flow improvements to increase throughput and reliability.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, error proofing, uptime, and cost reduction.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, process maps, and training materials.
  • Monitor key process KPIs (cycle time, scrap, downtime, OEE) and build dashboards and action plans to drive improvement.
  • Train and mentor technicians, operators, and engineers on process standards, problem-solving, and best practices.

| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
Education & Experience
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of process engineering experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proven success supporting General Assembly processes, including equipment launch, commissioning, and production ramp-up.
  • Experience in startup, greenfield, or rapid-scale environments is a plus.

Skills
  • Strong understanding of assembly processes, tooling, ergonomics, and manufacturing quality systems.
  • Proficiency with PFMEA, control plans, process capability analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with CAD or layout tools (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver sustainable improvements in safety, quality, and cost.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.
