Job description

Milhouse is looking for an energetic and driven Civil Engineering - Site Development Manager to join our downtown Chicago office.  
 
As the Section Manager of Civil Engineering for Site Development, you will be responsible for managing your own team of talented engineers, overseeing projects, and ensuring quality delivery for our clients.  This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced project manager who excels at leading civil engineering tasks for site development and building projects. This position reports directly to Milhouse’s VP of Civil / Transportation and works in a collaborative environment that promotes innovation, work-life balance, and professional growth.
What you'll do:
  • Lead and manage a civil engineering design team of three to six people, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Oversee and assist with the development and production of site and utility design plans and specifications from start to finish for public and private clients in Illinois  
  • Design tasks typically include the oversight / development of conceptual site layouts, demo, grading, utility, drainage/ storm sewer plans and permitting
  • Maintain / grow positive client relationships and assist with business development efforts to continue expansion of our transportation project portfolio
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff while promoting a culture of innovation and work-life balance
  • Assure that Quality Assurance/Quality Control is being performed on every project 
  • Work on and manage billable projects for a majority of your time.  Initially, this will likely include:
  • Chicago Housing Authority – Brooks Homes underground infrastructure
  • Public Building Commission – Shoreline Mitigation Project
  • Chicago Dept of Transportation – Program Management Consultant for Chicago Works
Who you are:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering 
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience designing site-civil projects which includes 5 years of managing multiple design teams performing the work
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois is required
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a team
  • Technical background and experience managing projects for public agencies (CDB, PBC, CHA, CDOT), architects or developers that utilize AutoCAD Civil 3d or other site-civil / drainage related software 
  • Experience preparing civil engineering / utility plan sheets and specifications for site development and building projects 
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Robust organization and communication skills as required to create / execute project plans and respond to client requirements
