Choral Teaching Artist - Per Diem

Job Summary

92NY School Engagement in the Arts brings arts residencies, performances, and learning experiences to thousands of K-12 students and educators across New York City each year.

We are seeking an experienced choral educator to lead a high school choral residency at a Manhattan public high school. The role focuses on vocal technique, musicianship, ensemble singing, artistic expression, and performance preparation.

The choral educator will build a welcoming choir culture, select varied repertoire, and prepare students for midyear and end-of-year performances. Candidates should be comfortable adapting instruction for students with a range of learning needs and collaborating with 92NY staff, school administrators, and the school music department.

Job Responsibilities Include
    Plan and lead weekly high school choral residency sessions in partnership with 92NY and school staff.
  • Conduct rehearsals that build vocal technique, musicianship, ensemble skills, confidence, and performance readiness.
  • Teach healthy vocal technique, listening skills, part-singing, musical expression, and collaborative ensemble practice.
  • Select and prepare varied choral repertoire appropriate to students' experience levels.
  • Prepare students for midyear, end-of-year, or other school/community performances.
  • Adapt instruction in collaboration with school staff to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Communicate consistently with 92NY staff, school administrators, music faculty, and school partners.
  • Participate in required trainings, planning meetings, rehearsals, performances, and professional development.
  • Arrive prepared for each residency and manage music, materials, and rehearsal needs.
  • Complete required program documentation, including photos, attendance records, student testimonials, or other materials requested by 92NY.
Experience, Education, & Skills Desired
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field required.
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching choral music in public schools or comparable educational settings.
  • Experience working with high school students strongly preferred.
  • Experience directing school, youth, community, or other choral ensembles and preparing students for performance.
  • Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy, healthy vocal technique, choral conducting, and varied choral repertoire.
  • Ability to create a positive rehearsal environment that supports musical growth, participation, discipline, and ensemble collaboration.
  • Experience adapting instruction for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Keyboard skills preferred.
  • Current fingerprint clearance through the New York City and New York State Departments of Education preferred.
  • Spanish language proficiency and/or experience working with multilingual learners preferred.
Work Environment & Requirements

Applicants should be available for professional development and planning meetings with 92NY staff in September/October 2026. Teaching takes place during regular school hours, 8:00 AM-2:30 PM, with occasional after-school hours, 2:30-5:00 PM, from October 2026-May 2027.

Residency sessions typically consist of 45-minute class periods. Schedules are determined by school assignment.
