Job description

About this Role

You will join as a founding member of Fay's People Team, reporting to our People leader and taking care of the mission-critical work that helps our team of incredible Faybies thrive. You'll work across the company to keep people operations running smoothly, answer employee questions, and help build the People foundation for a scaling, fast-growing organization.

This is an individual contributor role for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and energized by being a go-to resource for employees. You're comfortable juggling multiple priorities, enjoy creating order out of ambiguity, and care deeply about delivering a great employee experience.

What You'll Be Doing

Employee Support & Experience

  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions related to benefits, policies, and general People topics, across NYC, SF & Remote locations
  • Support culture and engagement initiatives, including events, recognition programs, and internal communications
  • Help ensure a positive, well-organized employee experience at every touchpoint

HR Operations & Process Building

  • Own day-to-day People Operations administration: payroll, benefits enrollment, leave tracking, and HRIS data integrity
  • Identify gaps or inefficiencies in existing people processes and help design simple, scalable solutions
  • Build and maintain documentation, playbooks, and internal FAQs that support consistency as the team grows

Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle

  • Coordinate and continuously improve the new hire onboarding experience, from offer acceptance through first 90 days
  • Manage offboarding processes, including exit logistics, documentation, and knowledge transfer
  • Partner closely with managers and leaders to support performance processes, org changes, and team needs

Compliance & Reporting

  • Support compliance with employment laws and regulations across the states
  • Help prepare reports and track People Ops metrics (headcount, time-to-hire, etc.)

Your Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in People Operations, HR, or a related function, at a startup or fast-growing company
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Comfortable working with HRIS tools and other People Ops tools/systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a service-oriented approach to supporting employees
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and judgment
  • Comfortable in fast-paced environments where priorities shift quickly and processes are still being built
  • NYC or SF-based, and able to join the team in-office on a hybrid rhythm

Preferred Qualifications

(Not required, but strong differentiators)

  • Exposure to benefits administration, leave management, or basic employment compliance
  • Familiarity with common HRIS/payroll platforms (e.g., Rippling, Greenhouse, Gem)
  • Experience in a healthcare, marketplace, or operations-heavy environment
