General Function:
  • Applies DoD, Air Force, and engineering/scientific principles to improve the performance, reliability, sustainability, and lifecycle support of current and future weapon systems.
  • Supports airworthiness certification activities by applying MIL-HDBK-516C criteria, maintaining compliance with USAF airworthiness policies, and assisting with flight authorization processes.
  • Contributes to System Integrity Programs, including Mechanical Systems Integrity Program (MECSIP), Critical Safety Item (CSI) management, and mission partner aircraft airworthiness oversight.
  • Assists in translating operational user needs into technical weapon system and subsystem requirements that guide design, development, testing, and fielding activities.
  • Supports development of technology roadmaps, action plans, and policies that enhance manufacturing, sustainment, remanufacturing, and demilitarization capabilities across the Air Force.
  • Performs technical and mission analyses of current and future operational requirements, including system concept development and engineering trade-off evaluations.
  • Provides engineering support for identifying, assessing, and resolving critical supportability, performance, and sustainment issues affecting weapon systems.
  • Supports system safety engineering efforts through mishap risk assessments, safety proposal evaluations, hazard analyses, and resolution of high-priority safety concerns.
  • Assists with material solution analyses, design reviews, and preparation of engineering documentation and presentations supporting program cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
  • Produces, reviews, and supports development of key acquisition and engineering artifacts, including requirements documents, systems engineering plans, test plans, security strategies, technology readiness assessments, and manufacturing readiness assessments.
  • Develops technical data packages, staff summaries, executive briefings, and milestone documentation required for leadership review and program approval decisions.
  • Participates in major engineering reviews and technical working groups, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FCA, PCA, PRR, PMRs, and other lifecycle review events.
  • Analyzes hardware and software deficiencies, recommends corrective actions, and supports development, integration, validation, and testing of technical solutions.
  • Evaluates contractor and subcontractor engineering recommendations, engineering change proposals (ECPs), contract modifications, FAA bulletins, DMSMS issues, and program risks.
  • Supports development and assessment of Integrated Master Plans (IMP), Integrated Master Schedules (IMS), Systems Engineering Detailed Schedules (SEDS), and engineering cost estimates.
  • Provides engineering advisory support during source selection activities and ensures compliance with Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) and Life Cycle Systems Engineering (LCSE) requirements.
  • Establishes, implements, and monitors OSS&E processes, metrics, compliance documentation, and baseline updates while coordinating with stakeholders across multiple organizations.
  • Participates in continuous process improvement initiatives, including value stream mapping and Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century (AFSO21), to improve engineering effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Supports configuration management, data management, risk management, environmental assessments, interface control activities, technical reviews, audits, and design review processes.
  • Performs systems integration engineering activities including architecture development, interoperability analysis, airworthiness certification support, risk management, system verification, lifecycle sustainment planning, technical baseline management, and evaluation of system performance, reliability, maintainability, supportability, and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications:
Education/Certifications/Experience/Skills:
  • MA Degree and more than 10 years of related experience, OR, BA Degree and more than 15 years of experience related to the position requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project).
  • Must be able to perform all functional duties independently.
  • Must be able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position as Full Time is estimated between $145 - 155K. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. PE Systems considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
