ECHO is hiring in our IT department!ย  The IBM Power Systems Administrator / Operator is responsible for the administration, operation, maintenance, and support of ECHOโ€™s IBM Power infrastructure and IBM i (AS/400) environments. This role supports critical business applications including Infor XA ERP, manufacturing systems, finance-related retention environments, integrations, backups, and supporting infrastructure.

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 based on experience and qualifications.

This is a hybrid position that will offer the flexibility of working from home and on-site at our Lake Zurich facility.

Duties/Responsibilities:ย 

IBM Power Systems & IBM i Administration

โ€ข Administer and support IBM Power Systems hardware and IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) environments.
โ€ข Configure and maintain LPARs, HMC, firmware, PTFs, and operating system updates.
โ€ข Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and security.
โ€ข Troubleshoot hardware, software, and performance issues; coordinate vendor support with IBM.
โ€ข Perform system maintenance, upgrades, and infrastructure optimization.

ERP & Operational Support
โ€ข Support Infor XA ERP and other business-critical manufacturing applications.
โ€ข Maintain manufacturing, shop floor, demand planning, finance, and audit-related systems.
โ€ข Manage job processing, subsystem monitoring, spool files, user access, printers, and operational workflows.
โ€ข Monitor and troubleshoot batch processing and scheduled jobs.

Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity
โ€ข Administer IBM i backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
โ€ข Support FlashCopy, VTL, SAN-integrated, and immutable backup solutions.
โ€ข Validate backup integrity and participate in recovery testing and documentation.
โ€ข Coordinate business continuity activities with infrastructure and storage teams.

Storage, Security & Infrastructure
โ€ข Support SAN storage environments, replication, connectivity, and capacity management.
โ€ข Coordinate maintenance, firmware updates, and performance optimization efforts.
โ€ข Support IBM i security, compliance, audits, access controls, and vulnerability remediation.
โ€ข Monitor system logs, alerts, and security events while partnering with cybersecurity teams.

Operations & Collaboration
โ€ข Monitor platform health, backups, critical jobs, and incident response activities.
โ€ข Develop and maintain operational procedures and technical documentation.
โ€ข Provide after-hours production support as needed.
โ€ข Collaborate with ERP, Infrastructure, Application, IBM, and third-party support teams.
โ€ข Participate in modernization, ERP migration, and hybrid platform initiatives.

Job Experience/Skills:ย 

  • 5+ years of experience supporting IBMย iย / Power Systems environments. ย 
  • Experience supporting enterprise ERP platforms.ย 

Requirements:ย 

  • IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) administration.
  • IBM Power Systems hardware administration.
  • HMC management.
  • Infor XA ERP support.ย 
  • IBM BRMS, Spectrum Protect, or enterprise backup solutions.ย 
  • SAN/storage technologies. ย 
  • PowerHA or high availability technologies. ย 
  • IBM MQ / middleware technologies. ย 
  • SQL and Db2 knowledge. ย 
  • Batch job scheduling and operational automation.ย 
  • LaserVault virtual tape libraries.

Education:ย  Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.ย  Relative experience can substitute for degree.ย
